Recipe's preparation

    Directions
  1. Preheat oven 180deg C. Line a baking tray with baking paper (best cooked on a metal tray, if you use a glass tray you may need to allow another couple of minutes cooking time).

Add 150g unsalted butter and 30g golden syrup to the Thermomix bowl.

    Melt 3 minutes, 80deg, speed 1

Add all dry ingredients - 150g self-raising flour, 150g light brown sugar, 120g rolled oats and 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda and combine 20 seconds, speed 3.

Scrape down and mix for a few more seconds if needed (generally it will combine well on the first mix).

Roll the moist mixture into small balls about 20g (3.5cm diameter), do not flatten as they spread during cooking. This will make around 25-30 finished cookies of about 7cm diameter. Place on the lined tray, well spaced to allow for spreading.

Bake at 180deg for 9-11 minutes until golden brown.

Leave to cool on the hot tray for 5-10 minutes, once they have firmed up, lift gently on to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Enjoy your hobnobs with a cup of English breakfast tea!

Tip

Make your own Golden Syrup for this recipe, it takes an hour but is very easy! https://www.recipecommunity.com.au/sauces-dips-spreads-recipes/homemade-golden-syrup/d5q7kt6t-a01aa-483920-cfcd2-jz8fl4mw

If you prefer a less sweet biscuit, you can reduce the sugar to 100g.

If you prefer a lighter taste, switch the light brown sugar to caster sugar and/or halve the golden syrup quantity

If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.
Please note that the TM5 mixing bowl has a larger capacity than the TM31 (capacity of 2.2 liters instead of 2.0 liters for TM 31). Recipes for the Thermomix TM5 may not be cooked with a Thermomix TM31 for safety reasons without adjusting the quantities. Risk of scalding by spraying of hot liquids: Do not exceed the maximum filling quantity and observe the filling level markings of the mixing bowl!
