Ive just received my TM5 back from Thermie Hospital. It was sent for repairs because I kept receiving the C149 blocked sensor lid, then the C150 codes - call the repair centre immediately, which I did. Now, TM5 is back home safely after it's holiday at the 'Thermie Hospital' the very first time I used it, I get exactly the same error messages - why? - Needless to say, I am less than happy - Thermie, is only just 12 months old. Has anyone else had similar issues?????
Hi, we've got a TM5 that is now about 6 months out of warranty and this C161 error has come up.
Given my reading of the thread, this seems to be a fault of the unit, not a service issue. I assume then that Thermomix will repair the unit without charge, as per their obligations under law?
Can someone confirm whether that's true, or if they had to pay?
How do we get it fixed as well? Our consultant is no longer here to talk to, she moved away.

After making risotto and steaming chicken I got a C145 error immediately followed by a C161 error. My beloved thermie would just shut down. After multiple attempts at restarting, it just would just repeat the same errors. I am hoping it is because my thermoelectric is hot... My consultant has moved to Perth unfortunately.

I have purchased a TM5 secondhand and the warranty has expired 16/12/16 so i purchased late Jan 2017 I used it once then on using a second time i started getting error 161, lid would not close seal seem to expamd on heat machine kept shutting down very frustrating, upon looking up this forum I found I was not the only one with this problem it was happening to new machines and older ones, I understand if this was a user fault but this seems to be a fault with the machine, has anyone had their machine repaired that was out of warranty because of these error messages. I can not the use machine without it shutting down . Very frustrating need advise/help please.

I made a curry for approximately 30mins tonight and then mashed potato. While mashing the potato error C161 kept coming up on the screen so it kept restarting. How can this be fixed?

I was concerned that the issue was ongoing from other comments but the lady I spoke to assured me that the newer models were not experiencing this problem. I'm very pleased to hear the issue has been addressed.
I cannot believe that a full 12 months after I had the same problem resolved there are still issues with this error. It seems nothing has changed!!! Pretty bad for an appliance that is so expensive!! If I could turn back time....I probably wouldn't buy it again!!

I too have been experiencing the C161 error msg, followed by automatic shut down of the TM5 with the lid locked. There is no one particular time that it occurs, it always happens at random, mid way through cooking. This 1st occured about 2 months after I started using it and has been becoming more frequent since.
I have had this machine since Jan 2015, however only got it out of the box and started using it in March this year. Since Jan 2015 the only transport of the machine has been the initial delivery to my house. This is extremely dissapointing and frustrating, considering this is a brand new, $2000AUD, machine.

Hi my machine gets halfway through cooking then shuts down, it throws up error message C161.
When I turn it back on and try again, it does it again. Then it either keeps the lid closed and shuts down or tells me it can't shut the lid.
Reading this forum it seems to be a common problem, can someone from Thermomix please post what the cause is. It this a machine fault? I use the machine once a fortnight its not like it is overworked. I never had any probelms with my earlier model. I have bought 6 in total between my earlier model and presents for kids.
thank you thermo mix head office. i received a phone call and email with instructions yesterday. i had to remove the basket to package it up and then it took about 30 tries to lock the lid back on for transportation mode, but i got there in the end and it has been sent in the post today!

Same issues here!! My machine shows C145 and C161 continually .... and I'm in the middle of trying to prepare for my first large family party tomorrow.... I have been married 5 months and the machine was a gift ... its only had approx 4 months use, maybe only every 2 weeks.

I keep getting a C161 at the final blending stage of cooking vegetable or pumpkin soup once reach speed 3 it stalls and show error message C161 and shuts down, only way to complete recipe is to take the bowl of the machine wait 10 15 minutes then it works I read that this is a common problem need it fixed.
I had this error on my unit. Notified my rep, within 24 hours had a call from the service centre, it was repaired and returned within 48 hours of me letting them know there was an issue.
I can't thank them enough for their amazing speed and service. If anyone has the same issue, please just call your rep, they will get it sorted immediatley.
You won't believe it but I am in the middle of making tomatoe ketchup and for the first time I have a c161 error and I can't finish my ketchup. I've had my machine since December 2014 and I only use my machine occasionally I am surprised and frustrated. Can't understand how a machine of this standard has such a short running life span. will this error go away I am waiting for my machine to cool down so I can purée the last step.

Hi. I live in Sout Africa and bought my machine back home in Germany during my holiday in August 2014.
up until last week I had no problem with the machine and was actually very happy to use this amazing machine.
Along with the C161 error I am getting an error code of C145. I contacted my local agent Carla who responded immediately and was more than willing to assist with the issue, the question I now have is if this is a manufacturing problem why am I being told I have to pay for repairs because I had purchased the machine in Germany. I was introduced to the machine in Germany hence why I bought it there, for the amount of money that I paid I would expect a global guarantee.
My thermomix has just started to do this in the last week. Have emailed my NZ consultant after seeing all the comments on here. Definitely agree it best be sorted promptly..... A lot of money invested in this machine

Hi all,
Seems i'm running int othe same C161 and C145 errors.
I've had my machine since Nov 2014.... but certainly haven't used it much... probably once a week on average.
So it doesn't seem to be usage related... as i'm sure others have had ALOT more usage before running into this issue.
I've contacted my consultant.. just awaiting a response.
If it has to go in for repair.. does it need to get shipped in its original box?
Note sure i know where mine is now. ;(
