hi i,ve just got my TM31 few days ago and my seal smells like curry, washed it, soaked it, not great after spending all that money that have to spend more on a second seal so dessert doesnt smell like curry
Even though I have had a smell in my seal, I've never had the flavour transfer to another dish?! Maybe it would be best for you to contact your consultant and buy another seal, especially if you use a lot of spices in your house. That way you can use on for savory and one for sweet dishes.
We dont really use spices much, but even perhaps just wiping over it with a vinegar soaked cloth may help. Or if it really drives you nuts, get a second bowl. Or just a second lid with seal.
Actually, I have a pot of cummin flavoured coffee that would argue this
I have just got my TM and as I use a lot of spice in my cooking, I would really appreciate a QUICK way to clear the smell from my seal. It is not useful to have to do a vinegar clean or 2x through the dishwasher just to make a custard for dessert that doesn't taste like the curry we had for mains.
The best way to remove any odours from your seal is to put it through the dishwasher - for particularly stubborn curry/onion smells run it through twice and it will be as good as new!
[I would try soaking the smelly ring in a bleach solution. Rinse afterwards of course. kitelady.
You could try doing the clean at the front of the everyday cookbook, using the vinegar and dishwashing liquid. I know this doesn't actually mean you will be soaking the seal but I did this clean today after cooking tikka paste and butter chicken twice this week, and all smells are now gone from my seal and lid. Hope that helps. If that still doesn't work, give your consultant a call as she may have some other ideas.

I cant think of any other suggestions to help the seal you have. A new seal is only $20, perhaps its worth replacing. Maybe keep the old one and use it for the same tasks and thus keep the new seal fresh.
yes, have removed seal from lid and washed seperately. Tried soaking the seal in vinegar and water on it's own for 10 mins, that hasn't worked either.Hmmm.....
Have you tried removing the seal (carefully) from the lid and washing both separately? Perhaps flush with a little white vinegar before reassembling? It might help.
I made garam marsala and then lots of spices in a Lamb Rogan Josh dish. Whilst it was delicious, I cannot get the spices smell out of the lid seal! Now all my hot chocolates, and everything else taste like indian spices! I have tried washing several times with warm soapy water, vinegar and bicarb soda to no avail. Any suggestions??

Storing the lid and seal wrong way up when the TMX isn't in use will help dry out the seal and may remove the odour.

All suggestions greatfully received.

I have placed plastics in the freezer b4 to get rid of odours - might work... Generally a few hours does the trick

I find it doesn't really matter if the seal retains odours, they don't transfer to other foods you cook.

I thought the same thing, but I've only had my Thermie less than a week and don't want to fork out another $20!
