I thought I'd try the winner winner chicken dinner featured in your most recent newsletter. After completing all the prep and steaming my chicken for 55 min, my tmx will no longer operate (a variety of error messages come up, but mostly it just switches off) and on searching the forums I find this is a common problem with no apparent solution. So halfway through the evenings witching hours I find myself with two hungry toddlers, a screaming newborn, a half cooked chicken and pumpkin not-soup (I can't blend it, and of course I no longer have my old blender).
Baked beans on toast and $30 of ruined dinner-for-six was not what I was expecting from a $2000 appliance on a Friday night.
We have been receiving error messages, and our Thermomix has been automatically turning itself off. Very, very furstrating! Our machine is less than a year old. However, it was purchased in Australia and we have subsequently moved overseas.
How do we get this fixed (I think it may be overheating)?
Really hoping we dont fall into a servicing/warranty blackhole because we moved overseas!
I've cooked a few meals today in our TM5. It's stopped and shut down every few minutes while I'm cooking the pork and apple cider stew. It's so incredibly frustrating. It's sitting in the bowl as I type this, trying to get it finished! C161 then it shuts down.
Whats also equally as frustrating is the seal on the lid is becoming more and more difficult to get to sit on properly so it doesn't pop up the fault that the lid's not on properly! I'm finding that more often than not I'm pushing the lid down again and again until it stops wanting to pop back up! This machine is not old at all!
lease can someone contact me regards the same error as its just upsetting now!. I'm in the middle of making dinner and that error just wont give up. Mal
I used my Thermo today attempting to make vegetable stock towards the end ERROR C161 keeps coming up.
Upon reading many posts it concerns me that the cooker gets too hot to cook? Very frustrating when you've purposely gone to buy all the ingredients, for it to stop working - midway.
Touch baSe with either your Rep or call Thermomix customer service directly. They will deal with the issue quickly ... Mine was collected the next day and back in less than two weeks. No problems since!
I experienced this error tonight whilst steaming some pork. I had been steaming for an hour with 30 minutes to go and the error came up spontaneously. I tried to restart three times before any luck. Please also contact me regarding this issue as I would like to know what the code stands for.
I am also getting the error when I am trying to thicken a sauce any ideas. If the sauce does not thicken I am going to have to throw out the whole meal. No happy.
I am also getting the error when I am trying to thicken a sauce any ideas. If the sauce does not thicken I am going to have to throw out the whole meal. No happy.
has anyone established what exactly C161 means as yet? I have experienced this numerous times with my Thermomix now over the past two or three weeks and am starting to find it quite frustrating! Cannot find what this means in any of the information I was given on delivery of maching either.
I have also noticed that some of the plastic around the base of the arms is cracking - cracking, the macing is not even five months old, is designed as an everyday, do it all kitchen machine/utensil and is showing signs of everyday wear and tear already!
Thank you TM for your prompt attention to my request. The machine has been packaged up and shipped back to TM for repair.
Tonight however I received a bill from Thermomix stating that locking control arms and control levers have been replaced under warranty, HOWEVER while checking the machine they "noticed noisy operation". "Spill was found inside TM upon inspection, through motor. Motor requires replacement (spill had been there for some time which has damaged the bearing inside motor) and full clean. Cost of motor not covered by warranrty. Requires full service; recalibrate and balance; full function test". COST TO ME: $193 for new motor.
My question is, how did a spill get "inside" the machine? The only warning I was given was to ensure the pins were always dried before connection. I was always particular with this. So, even if a spill has entered the motor of the machine, how could I have possibly seen it or cleaned it?
The machine is only 6 months old. Will the motor, locking control arms and control levers die another 3 times before the warranty is up, and what happens once the warrenty expires? I simply can't afford $400 in repairs every 6 months :( for a home cooking appliance.
Finally, to add insult to injury "all charges must be paid in full before the machine is released". On my original order form and tax invoice there is an "Important Information for Customers" list. Under the term Limitation of Liability it states "You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage". The machine won't operate unless the locking arms function properly, therefore there is no doubt that this is a major failure if the arms need replacing. I am not currently seeking a refund/replacement or compensation, but if pushed to pay for repairs that should be under warranty I will quickly want to severe my loyalty to TM and seek a refund under CCA laws.
Can someone from Thermomix contact me about this error too. This has happened on two instances now. Both time cooking hot meals using the recipe chip. Refused to restart until the next day.
I too have hadc161 and I now can't even get my thermomix staarting-so this is not an overheating problem as it hasn't even been used today.I have had this happen 3 previous times also and had to wait till next day for it to operate again-today nothine.
at the end of cooking tomato sauce I could not blend due to error c161 appearing on screen thena home shutting down. Kept trying perhaps a dozen times. After 30min seem to cool enough to work. Perhaps I should revert to old version of thermomix if this is going to be an ongoing problem?
Can someone from the service department contact me too please, I experienced the C161 code last night in the middle of making dinner and was not impressed. I think there is also an issue with the scales as I put approx 20g of parsley in but the scales still read 0g. And quite often the safety measures will display when turned on (even though it was turned off correctly previously).
I have just had this error come up a number of times while steaming Corned Beef. I struggled to get it going again, but after some of the comments here I decided to try and cool it all down and put fresh cold water into the bowl. So far it is working again, but I am concerned that this is a problem that will require me to send it back. Please advise.
Update - after working again for around 15 mins it did it again.
Had my thermie since Nov 2015 and just got the error c161 message and shutdown occuring. After a dozen or so restarts I managed to finish my dish but soooo frustrating! Does this mean it needs to go in for repair? Was going to make butter chicken for dinner tonight but it might take 3 hours!
as you can see from a few comments ago I too had the c161 error and thought I'd give feedback on my experience. while I was disappointed at the thermomix failing on me I was more than satisfied with their response time and service. So my machine starting getting the error on the Friday night so wrote to thermomix as well as complained on this forum, thermomix service rep had contacted me on the Monday and I dropped my machine in that day, I'm only 2 suburbs over from there head quarters so no big deal. I was told could be up to 10 days but to my surprise was called the next day with machine ready to be picked up. to fix the error they put on new arms and gave it a service, they also gave me a new lid for free as mine had a crack in it from me dropping it. Have not had the problem since getting it home.
Is everyone here satisfied with just sending their machine away for repair and not receiving any detailed explanation from thermomix as to why this problem is occurring in so many TM5s or compensation for time without the $2000 machine we have paid for?
Has anyone here received any compensation?
After my machine has failed to work for the second time- first the faulty arm issue and now the scales not working- I know I am not satisfied. All thermomix has offered is another repair and their level of service has definitely not been to the standard they advertise their company as having.
For those that have their machines sent to the service centre again, I suggest you request a consultant organise pick up of your machine in the very least. I requested this from Thermomix.
I have also lodged an official complaint with the ACCC and the Department of Commerce in WA to try and work toward a satisfactory resolution and suggest anyone who is not satisfied do the same.
Thermomix- I do not require a response from you to this message. I am seeking responses from other customers.
