I live in Brisbane and had the same error a few weeks before Xmas which I was really worried about as I had lots more edible gifts to make. My machine was picked up by courier, repaired in Brisbane and returned to me within 8 days. I was very happy with that. (Not so happy about the fact that this machine is obviously faulty and Thermomix are not addressing this issue with some kind of recall) I'm not sure why yours couldn't have been sent to Brisbane, it's a tad closer than Perth!!?....you would think they'd have an authorised repairer in Sydney wouldn't you??
I'm also receiving the c161 error. Sounds like a seriously common problemThermomix! I've also had problems with the lid message and my recipe chip stopped working some months ago. I've had my Thermie about 15 months.
Poor service from Thermomix for this error!! It is a common known error in many machines (quite obviously from comments in this forum). However, you have to be without your machine for an extended time, while it is shipped to the other side of our country to be repaired.
Ive had this error on & off since new (Approx 12 months).
this error got really bad last week when trying to use the Veroma for an extended period.
i organised for it be sent to Thermomix for repair. Their customer service when reporting the fault & organising repair was very good. HOWEVER, their processes are lacking. Apparently, if you have a TM5 & live in NSW, you can only have machine repaired by sending it to WA!! There is no other option! So you have to allow 6 days travel time on top of the 10 working days maximum service turnaround.
Surely there are a lot of TM5 machines purchased on the east coast?? Why can't Melbourne service NSW TM5 machines??
Why is this the only service option? When you pay $2,000 for a machine, I think you can expect to receive top service. This is not what I would deem top service. I feel like I was sold a faulty machine & now have to be without machine for up to 3 weeks because of poor service options

Your Thermie may work again once it has cooled down completely, mine did. But the problem will probably keep happening. I have just had mine repaired for the same reason and I was only without it for 1 week. My consultant organised this to happen. It was picked up from my home last Friday, repaired and delivered back to me today. Great service, but it should be considering the cost of the machine! Not great timing for you though being so close to Christmas! Good luck.
I to am having the same error science last night. Halfway through cooking 161 error that forced shutdown and then lid errors. We couldn't finish what we were doing. Does it need to be sent away or will it be ok now after it's been off for a while? I'll be so upset if I loose it for Xmas

Thanks so much Julie, appreciate your quick reponse. I'll get in touch with my consultant, I got mine about a year ago too, will have to dig out the trusty old pots and blender - at least my dishwasher is working.
I've been told by my consultant that my machine will need to go in to the service centre and have the arms replaced. Apparently it's a problem that is surfacing with the first of the new machines, I got mine in February this year. Another person suggested that there should be a recall on them and I tend to agree considering the cost of the machine and the fact that there are other comparative machines on the market now.Leading up to Christmas I'm wanting to make edible gifts for people and now it looks like I'll be without my machine! Very annoying indeed!
I suggest contacting your consultant and she should sort it out for you.
Seems like this is becoming a known issue! Got 3/4 the way through cooking dinner tonight, using the varoma and it stopped. Error message was C161. Shut it down as it forces you to do. Started back up, loaded recipe again and then when I started it again, it gave me the lid error. Tried again a few more times until it came up with Error C161 again.
Very frustrating to have this for just under a year and now this happens...
Maybe Thermomix should consider a recall because this is not a great start to what should be a great machine...
I have had the same problem today. Made a double batch of strawberry jam then almost finished a double batch of chilli jam and got an error code c161. Machine shut down 3 times so I gave up and bottled it. Hopefully it will set enough on cooling. How do I contact the service department direct myself? Tried ringing my consultant but she hasn't returned my call as yet. Very annoying considering the cost of the machine and so many seem to be having this problem!
PS: my consultant has just got back to me and is looking after reporting this to the service team. Apparently it will need to go in for a repair but should be a pretty quick turnaround. Hope so!!
This evening I was excited to be making the Apple & Ginger Paste from the new Everyday Cooking chip and with 40 minutes still to go with boiling the paste, I got a C161 error and then the C145 error about the lid. :(Now I have half cooked puree and the machine won't work. My TMX5 machine is about 12 months old and I hoped that it would have lasted longer than this. The pre-Christmas timing is awful! Does anyone have any tips? Can someone contact me?
I was using my Thermomix (TM5) yesterday and it suddenly stopped working and gave me a C161 error and said it was shutting down. When it restarted it showed a C145 (lid cannot be locked) error. I repositioned the lid and tried again and the same thing happened. This occurred a number of times but it did eventually lock. However when it did lock the C161 error was shown and the machine shut down again. I tried several times and everntuallyI gave up and finished cooking the good old fashioned way :-(. After about an hour I thought I would try the machine again, so i put some water in it, turned it on and it seemed to work o.k. I didn't have time to do anything too much with it to make sure it's o.k. and the issue won't occur again. I'm reluctant to do make anything in it now in case the errors occur again and whatever I'm cooking in it is ruined.
I was very surprised when I googled the error numbers and saw how many people have had the same issue and there does't really seem to be any information from Vorwerk on what the actual problem is.
What do i do now? Do I need to get my Thermomix serviced?
I am searching the forums for explanation to the error c161 too!!!! The error came up at the mashing part of mashed potato! Now it's not doing a thing! Obviously there's somehting going on there, not just a simple error, as I can't find an explanation anywhere. I'd aprreciate someone contact me please.
I have also received the error codes while using the Varoma. About a month ago, after an hour of cooking the silverside in the Varoma, it kept coming up with c145 error and wouldn't lock the lid. Then it came up with a C161 error and kept shutting itself down. I tried waiting 5, 10 & 15 minutes but it wouldn't do anything else so I had to finish the meal the 'old-fashioned' way. About two weeks later, I tried cooking the Chicken Veloute meal and got nearly to the end, when while it was blending it came up with the c161 error and kept shutting down. I have had no trouble trying to mix, chop, etc afterwards (when it started working again) but I want to get it fixed whilst it is under warranty and hopefully before cooking the Christmas dinner.
I'm pretty sure it was these numbers but didn't write them down at the time (or You-tubed or Facebooked it) and when I tried telling the consultant, she at first told me that it was probably a bit of moisture that Imight have gotten into the machine, or that I should make another meal in it to be sure because she didn't want me to be liable for the charges if there was really nothing wrong with it. I am very disappointed in that response because obviously there is an issue with the Thermomix for so many people to have the same or similar problems. I am not making this up and feel that I am being made to feel responsible when in fact better customer service and a proactive handling of these issues is a much better way to improve consumer relations and Vorwerk's image.
Here I was defending the Thermomix to others whenever I had mentioned that I was having problems with it. Work collegues and friends were horrified that such an expensive machine could break down whilst still fairly new but I assured them it appears a simple fix and all was good. But now I am not so sure that I will be sticking up for Thermomix or the consultants in the future.

Can someone from thermomix please get in touch with me, i am getting error messages C 161 and the lidding locking message c 143?? I think thats it.
It seems to be an issue with the small switch at the back of the mixing bowl on the left hand side.
Obviously icant use the machine at all whilst these messages are happening.

My consultant got back to me and I called the service centre today and they're going to pick up by TNT and reset the machine.
It will take 7-10 days turn around and no guarantees it will be back in time for Christmas which is a bit of a pain.
The call centre number is 1800 004 838, they are based in WA for anyone in other states!
