Same problem here! Last night cooking a whole chook in varoma I got the C161 error and machine shut down. Turned off and let cool down but hasn't fixed problem. Also getting C144 error about lid not been fitted correctly even though it clearly is! If the god awful beeping at the end of every step wasn't bad enough now my machine is starting to fail after only having for less than 6 months!

I was almost done making tomato ketchup and the same thing happened to me. Error code C161. Turned it off and tried again several times with no luck. I look forward to being contacted asap. Thanks. 


I am having the same issue tonight whilst cooking a whole chicken in the varoma. It still has 15 minutes to go. It have rried about 6 times to restart but the c161 error message keeps coming up and asking me to shut the machine down.

My Thermomix has just come up with the error C161 during the 8 second cooldown time frame. What does this mean and what shall I do? Can I still use the machine?

I have been contemplating buying a thermomix for months and thought I was finally ready to make the plunge... BUT after reading all these error messages from unhappy customers. I am now thinking it's not worth it. Are all TM5's malfunctioning?! Or was it just the first release of TM5's?

Just made the spaghetti sauce and had the cheese sauce ready to go. Error message c161, just keeps shutting down. Turned off and let cool but no success. I bought the machine in november last year. Regards Lynelle

Error C161 came up on my machine yesterday when I was at the stage of blending the vegetable soup.  It shut down.  I waited a while and turned it back on.  After 30 seconds as soon as I started to increase the speed, got the error message again.  Three times in total.  Not happy.  Haven't used it since.  

Is this a problem that I can 'expect initially but will go away' like I was told with the problem of the lid not going back on when cooking something hot?

Hi have received the C161 error a couple of times and today when making butter chicken received it again plus the 145 error saying the lid or bowl was not fitted correctly (which it was).  On looking at this page it seems to be a common error and a lid issue.  Can I please have someone from the service team contact me to organise fixing.  Thanks.


Hi all I had this issue with my machine. No need to worry, I posted my issue with the c161 error here. They organised collection the next day my machine was gone for approximately 3 days then couriered back to me. I have not had the issue again.

I have just started having this problem also.  My TM5 was bought in November 2014 and has always had the error about the blocked lid sensor.  Now it is giving a C161 error and shutting down with the lid locked.  This happened after cooking a stew for 30min, then again after i was cooking potatoes for 15min.  

I have tried about 20 times to get it to restart both times, but nothing works.

Just had the C161 error come up again! had this error a week ago as well! What does it mean?????? Something is not right seems to happen when I cook something for longer then 15 minutes! Can someone please contact me as my demonstrator is no longer selling thermomix's.

Bought my TM5 in December and constantly getting c161 error message when trying to cook things that take longer than 15 mins. Can't even get through mashed potato without the machine shutting down a couple of times. $2000 and can't make dinner without multiple delays. Not a happy customer right now

I am also having trouble with my machine also, half was thru cooking pocket roast beef and machine shuts down, displaying C161, also C145 telling me the lid cannot be licked in position.  Very frustrating with a new machine.  Have phoned my consultant and left message

My machine is a whole 2 weeks old and I'm constantly getting the 161 error.  Not happy paying over $2000 for something that I can't use!


My machine was getting the 161 and 141 errors last night. I tried again this morning but still the same error. My machine is 2 months old. It is very frustrating for a new machine.

 

Please let me know how to fix this. I've left messages for my consultant but I haven't heard back from her yet.

This has just happened to my machine today also... I was cooking soup it now says its shutting down and keeps turning off after the C161 error code.

I have just got this message up on my thermomix 5 whilst I was making Carmel fudge 

it is now resting and cooling down 

I understanding it is a lid sensor issue 

I live the North side of brisbane and can drop it off at the maintenance dept in new stead

This has just happened to my machine today also... I was cooking vegetables in the varoma after cooking a chicken in it too! it now says its shutting down and keeps turning off after the C161 error code.

Hi, I have already spoken to my consultant AND have had my Thermomix (TM5) "repaired" by the service team, sent off to the repair centre....10 day turnaround.

Today when making frappacino's it happened again, twice.

I have found that by moving the lid slightly it gets a different fit and seems to be Ok, but when making recipes you just want the mixer to work and not have to worry about "jiggling" the lid.

Obviously a design fault, but for my money I would prefer a machine that worked and worked all the time.

Very disappointed as I was the one in our house that had to be convinced to spend the conciderable sum of $2000 on a machine where the lid has to be moved to make the thing work! Very dissappointed to say the least.I will be contacting my lovely consultant, Wendy, to see what she suggests but don't really want to have to send it away again........


I spoke to the Service team, it's due to a faulty lid sensor and needs to be serviced immediately.

I have had same problem cooking corned beef in the varoma. Happened toward the end when the machine was hot. The lid is often difficult to get back on when hot and sometimes the locking mechanism doesn't like it. Not sure if the error is associated with the heat or the lid or a combination of both? It was a real pain toward the end of cooking when everything else is ready and I'm still trying to finish the meat because I had taken the varoma off the lid so many times! Seemed to be ok once I let the machine cool down and I ran cold water over the lid. 

I have spoken to my lovely consultant who has  logged a request with the service department. Look forward to a response soon. 


I have the same problem with my TM5. I saw the c161 error while blending vegetable soup. I let it cool down but it didn't fix it. Please advise.

I used my TM5 to make 2 batches of apricot jam. In the final stretch of the 2nd batch the lid refused to lock in and the the machine shut down displaying an Error 161 message.

I let the machine cool down and then we were back on track.  Has anyone else had this problem? It's a bit annoying!
