Forum Noisy Thermomix
I'm not impressed with the noise level either. If i'm using high speeds and without cooking i wrap a tea towel through the handle and over the lid (not tightly) but it really helps muffle the noise. I would never be comfortable cutting ice and chick peas in it again, that is way above the safe noise level and I'm surprised it meets Australian standards.
I have an open plan kitchen living area and I must say that my family have just had to adjust. I've now gotten into the routine of getting all thermie cooking out of the way before the kids (and I) want to watch TV at 7pm. They also know that when I'm making a racket doing a smoothie in the morning that it is time to get up
I use earmuffs when I grind grain, parmesan, ice etc. My husband suffers from industrial deafness, I don't want to go the same way!
I am sensitive to noise and I don't like the noise it makes. I use a pair of ear muffs when it makes a lot of noise for short periods like for kneading dough, milling grains etc. when it makes noise for longer periods I put it on and do something in the garden or in another part of the house and until I hear that the food is ready. If I am nearby I sometimes just turn it down.
The noise of the TM would be my only complaint as well.
I have found exactly the same thing
Not very happy about it, the noise scares my 4yr old if I don't warn him I am turning it on!! No chance of cooking with it while kids are in bed...
I also just bought my TM (3 days ago) and have an open plan kitchen. That is part of a family room area. The noise is a real problem for me as it interrupts the other activities in the area, noobe can watch TV I have tried lots of recipies, including curry, custard, risotto, and even though everyone loves the food, we are reluctant the turn the machine on due to the noise. i called my consultant and she suggested trying a lower speed but that did not help. I wondered if my machine has a flaw, or whether it just isn't 'suitable for open plan areas? Also, does anyone have any suggestions about what can I do about it?
Hi, If in doubt about any aspect of your Thermomix your first port of call should be your consultant. Have you expressed your concern to them? They will be able to help you troubleshoot if necessary.
Hi all, I am new to this forum. I recently purchased a thermomix and have been amazed with what it can do. However I am concerned about the noise that it is making when I am using it on the lower speeds. I understand and expect it to be noisier when using it at higher speeds, but tonight made a chicken stock, speed 4 and we had to turn the tv up as it was loud. I have also had hubby complain when I am making rice, and also the bolognaise. All these items are not at high speeds I am wondering if it is something I am doing wrong? I am sad to admit that I am starting to regret my purchase as there is no way I would use the machine when I am entertaining as it is so intrusive.
I look forward to your feedback
