Stephanie is your post serious? You absolutely do appear to be posting with 'consultant' speak - and can I ask from your 'personal experience' how would you correct a machine that vibrates so badly it rocks, shoots the measuring cup out of the lid and then sprays boiling liquid up the wall? I can't see how your suggestion to flick the blades would help - but please enlighten me, you could fix all the problems I'm having with the machine.
I feel so disappointed with the run around I have had from Thermomix - I think I have purchased a $2k box filler. I wanted to sell this on eBay - but I couldn't in good conscience knowing it doesn't work properly. Chrissy the electric composter that turns food scraps (including meat) to compost in 24 hours is under $900 - it's a shame you use this expensive appliance for compost.
Hi, yes I still have my tmx. At the moment it is only getting used for smoothies (by my hubby) and I use it to grind up the compost or chicken food. Still not all that impressed and am thinking it may need a serviceasmy blades arebluntand the lld doesnt go on everytime easily. I did loan it to a friend for 5 months and never missed it, she ended up buying her own. Not having reliable internet at my new home makes inspiration difficult, and recipe conversions dont happen as the EDC is all wrong in measurements and ratios.
Hello Wits' End, I am sorry to hear that you feel your consultant is fobbing you off. In the 7 months I have had my Thermomix I have only had one time where I would feel the need to stay with the machine which is when it is kneading (which is advice given during your delivery instruction, if you had this) but other than this I feel I can set and forget and get on with other things. Yes there is a lot of vibration when crushing ice, processing hard vegetables but generally we are talking around 10 seconds for vegetables and maybe a minute for other things such as sorbet. I would recommend contacting Thermomix head office and asking for assistance if you are not happy and also to attend a cooking class or two where you can air your concerns openly and discuss with other owners and also have a senior group leader address them. If there is a fault then you can take your machine into a service centre or if under warranty they will courier it into there (if is a genuine fault). I hope you will not give up as I would not like to think of you having this disappointment with your important investment. I would like to hear how you are getting on. By the way, yes I am a consultant but my comments relate to my personal use of my thermomix and not related to sales in any way which is why I refer you back to head office.
If you give the TM bowl blades a quick spin on speed 10 for 1-2 secs after getting out most of the content of the bowl that usually does the trick to spin the central contents to the side and then easy to get out.

After just under 12 months I'm about to eBay mine too. I've been really good and experimented trying lots of recipes - but I'm sick to death of the vibrating and bouncing all over the bench when chopping vegetables (cold) and also when blending hot food. It's getting worse on a weekly basis and really it's making me not want to use it - I don't know if I'm damaging the machine and it's very frustrating that the contact is a consultant who just fobs you off. There's no customer service at all. I've done a lot of cooking and used a lot of appliances and kitchen utensils - I'm not a novice who has no idea, and I'm pretty sure I know when to give up - this is not me using the machine incorrectly. I've been watching demos online and other machines are not performing like this. I have wasted a huge amount of money and I'm really disappointed. I went way beyond the $2k outlay buying accessories and books. Other people seem to have this vibrating issue in small numbers on here so it sounds like a fault - and under warranty I don't know why it can't be repaired!
It is always hard to tell who my clients are with tag names :) So glad you're over the collywobbles and hope you're loving everything!
Remember to call or email anytime, I'm always here to help.
Thanks Aimless and Paola, for your words of support for all those out there who are unsure about the TM. You're so right, you are still in control of what happens in the TM, and can make the food taste how you want. Making a recipe your own is part of the fun! An it is the same with all cooking, not just with the TM.
No you haven't. Food made in the thermie does not taste the same. Yes you need to experiment but you would do that with normal cooking.
There are recipes you will make over and over and change constantly depending on what you have in the fridge/pantry or garden even.
Pressing a button is not going to give you a 5 star meal. You have to make it and when you do use it more and more you know you've made the right choice for you and your family.
I wouldnt worry I am finding I much prefer to tweak recipes and also just cook what I know but using the TM. Ive not had any watery flavourless food at all.
I also still use my normal cook books and just convert them.
Frustrated cook ready to bounce into the TM world with gusto!
Thanks for your reply Fiona - I've got over the collywobbles now and I'm really looking forward to getting my machine:) Can't wait in fact! You are my consultant which is another reason why I feel so comfortablle with my decision I realise that any recipe or form of cooking needs to be tweaked to personal taste and I look forward to doing it!
I always tell my clients that it is personal taste, some people love all the recipes as they are, others want to change them. This is the same with any other style of cooking. Once you get used to the "process" of the Thermomix you can do anything you want, so your food won't be bland and watery.
I make most of our evening meals in it as do many of my clients. Your consultant should be able to guide you, especially in the beginning and from there you can do your own thing.
Just give it a go and make sure you contact your consultant with your questions, they should be able to help.
I must admit I'm worried after reading these posts - my TM is on order and I really hate watery bland food as do my kids:(. The demo tasting seemed awesome. But if i need to "tweak" all the recipes that are provided and constantly phone my consultant it just sounds like hard work and wasted food and i dont have the time or money to waste. I just need something to seamlessly help me to prepare evening meals when I get in after work - the cakes, bread, milling flours etc are really not so important to me right now
I have had so much fun trying out new ways to cook things, using the Varoma. Not with recipes either! My new partner loves it, after his first hesitations using a new expensive "gadget". He now thinks it is worth the money, plus some! Try using different levels of your herbs and spices to get new flavours happening.
my new partner suggests to just throw away the conventional cookbook and try what you fancy as new blends, tastes and methos in the TM. It really is a wonderful machine.
It is so interesting to return to this thread - I share so many of the negative experiences! I have had my machine a couple of years now and still not happy with it. I have been to many classes and talked to my consultant but I am still much happier with my 25 year old food processor. I have a chuckle when people who are unhappy are told it is the ingredients or they are not using it correctly.
I have just purchased a breville scraper mixer which I absolutely love and with that and my food processor I am making delicious food and often a lot easier than I found the thermomix. So each to his own but please realise there are people who just don't like it!
tasha00, when you are ready, search the forum for yoghurt tips and tricks under What am I having for breakfast? heading, lots of good advice there. Just quickly yoghurt starter is just a good quality natural pot set yoghurt that you can purchase from the supermarket. Regards Anne
Lol! I was just saying the same thing to my husband last night! I think I will end up having both machines on the bench ;) Would be cheaper than buying a second bowl and blade set! And each machine has its thing that it is better at doing then the other. Will try the custard recipe as my kids love custard. Not game to try the yoghurt though!! Not sure about the whole 'starter' thing and then how you go about flavouring it for the kids to eat.
tasha00, I'm impressed, It sounds like Bellini give good service. Hopefully there is room on your bench for both machines. You should try the T/X custard with maybe 30g cornflour instead of 50g - it's really nice. Kindest Regards Anne
Yep Bellini still works I had a problem where my blade wouldn't release from the bowl (still turned just couldn't get it out to clean) but I emailed their servce department asking for advice and they had a new bowl and blade in the post to me the next day. No proof of purchase necessary!
In terms of its capabilities- Ive made rice flour and almond meal in it no worries. 1 clove of garlic I do all the time along with bread and pizza dough. Orange cake and shortbread turned out really well. Dips are perfect. Never tried making yogurt or mascarpone and custard I do on the stove with custard powder
Bellini give a 12mth warranty for services;d target offer refund/exchange within 12mths as general store policy.
I'm sure the thermomix will be fine once I get used to it but its definitely not worth it's price tag! I guess I was just expecting it to be heaps better than my cheap machine.
Hi tasha00, out of curiosity is your Bellini still working after 6 months?
I had gone through a couple of blenders and food processors before I got my T/X April 2012. Blender motor died crushing ice and plastic casing of food processor jug and lid started falling apart. Previous one had died making fruit mince.
Are you able to grind wheat and other grain and make all sorts of bread in your Bellini, using a kneading function? Does it mix and make yoghurt perfectly? Does it make perfect custard? Can it grind 1 clove of garlic? Can it make a 30 second whole orange cake in 30 seconds? perfect shortbread biscuits? mascarpone cheese? great dips in no time? and so on.
You have a really great liittle kitchen gadget there, have a few demos and go to a cooking class or two to see what this little gadget can do for you. Your consultant will be able to provide all the necessary info.
Do Bellini give that 12 month guarantee or do Target?
In terms of the legal requirements of Australian consumer law, I'm not sure that TIA don't have to give you your money back if you are not satisfied and can demonstrate that the machine is not doing what it said it would do.
Is it possible to send it back?!?! I wish that it came 30 day money back satisfaction gurantee!
I had an imitation thermomix from Target for 6mths and used it heaps so my husband said he'd buy me a thermomix for mothers day seeing as I've proved I'm going to use it. I was so excited thinking that the Thermomix was going to be even better than my cheap machine and couldn't wait to get it! So I've had my thermomix for a week now and am having regrets! I honestly believe my Bellini was better and at a fraction of the cost!
- My Thermomix makes all sorts of weird sounding noises - Bellini doesn't- Thermomix recipe says to put crush half the ice first and then add the other half to crush - Bellini can handle the whole amount at once and even then I'm not left with any chunks like my TM; Same thing happens with carrot - it's only 1 carrot in my bolognaise sauce but my TM keeps leaving chunks of carrot.- Thermomix scales are all over the place!! I'm adding ingredients and the numbers on the scales go up and then down and up! I added a handful of cubed cheese to the bowl and it came up as 5g, which is not right so I took it out and pressed 'tare' and tried again. Still acting weird so I took all out and lifted up TM and put back down - nope - cleaned underneath TM and wiped the feet etc and then I think it was working --- but after all this effort I'm thinking it was heaps quicker with my Bellini where I take the bowl out and sit it in a set of kitchen scales and at least I know it is accurate!! I really don't trust my TM scales now!!!- I'm having issues mixing basic ingredients in my TM. I'll follow the recipe exactly and have it on speed 4 for 30 sec but after about 8 sec all the ingredients have been thrown to the edges and for the remaining 22sec the blades are just spinnning..... am I suppose to stop and remove the lid multiple times in that 30secs to scrape down side of bowl?!?! How annoying! My Bellini never had any issues - it would just mix and be finished! No scraping sides necessary!
The only thing I can't do in the Bellini is risotto (which I cook in the microwave anyway) and pasta (which I just cook in a saucepan).Thermomix is definitely not worth the price tag.
And at least with Bellini if you don't like the machine there is 12mths to return it no questions asked or if you have any issues with the machine you can exchange it for another one straight over the counter!!
Like many others, I'm so sorry to hear that you haven't enjoyed your Thermi much yet. I hope that things are improving! I use mine about 5 times a day and it never leaves the bench top.
I just wondered if you had been told that you can reduce the salt content in the stock to make it healthier? I have heard of a couple of people being told that, so I gave it a go. It was a terrible idea! It made everything taste very bland. Salt is obviously a big flavour enhancer. I have gone back to the advised quantity of salt in the stock paste and simply use a bit less of the stock in the dish if I am ever cooking for anyone on a low sodium diet.
I also advise reducing the flour in the custard to 30gr max.
Jam - add pectin/"jamsetta". Strawberries don't naturally have as much pectin as stone fruit like plums. Pectin is in the pips and strawberries just have the little tiny ones on the outside. Same with marmalade. If the strawberry jam comes out runny, add some liqueur and pour it over icecream
My mayonnaise recipe came from my lovely consultant Meagan (posted above) and I've never had a "Mayo-fail". I can post that recipe if you'd like. I use Grapeseed oil or Canola, depending on what's in the pantry. Extra Virgin Olive Oil makes it taste gross.
I also noted that you said that you'd used the budget busters cookbook. I agree that many of the ingredients called for in those recipes are not cheap! I just substitute a lot of things - onion instead of leek for instance.
Cream - we almost always substitute Carnation milk - or Carnation cocunut milk in curries.
Bread - mine works out at 70c a loaf and my family gets through at least two loaves a day, so that's a huge saving over store bought bread! I buy 10kg bags of flour. You can get 20kg ones too, which are probably a bigger saving.
Oil - olive oil is cheap if you buy in bulk too. For cooking, don't faff about with the expensive, gourmet, organic Aussie ones. You only need the top quality for salad dressing etc. I just get whatever big can of Italian or Spanish oil is on special and it tastes just fine. Homebrand works fine too.
Varoma - check out some of the "one-pot" recipes. The Asian Salmon with veggies and rice is AMAZING and not bland at all. So is the "Fried" Rice. So quick to feed the family! Do have your Varoma demo, it will really help.
I've always been a passionate cook and I love tweaking and modifying recipes. I find the Thermi is magic for making everything I used to do laboriously by hand and a breeze to replicate while I'm chasing the kids around. I rarely follow EDC recipes exactly any more - I just tweak them to the way my familiy likes them.
Biggest tip - talk to your consultant! And use the Forum and the Recipe Community - everyone there (here!) is passionate about cooking and about helping other people too!
I really hope that things improve for you and you fall in love with your Thermi!
:I Love my Thermomix !!! Love love love it! It does take some practice to get quick with it and you do need to learn to look at cooking in a bit of a different way. Start with recipes in the Everyday cookbook and you won't go wrong. It saves so much time with chopping etc
Thank you for your concern H/O, I have already looked at classes however night classes do not suit me :(,
The update with my feelings about my Thermie - is: it is what it is, its great for some stuff and other stuff well I guess I am not prepared to Risk ie: $45kilo for fish was not about to try use it in my thermi. I have wasted a lot of food and time in my first week but i will continue to persevere as I am sure I will get there. I have googled recipies from other Thermomix sites and will try. I guess if I had any idea how to convert receipies (more the method than the ingredients), this may help me along. My consultant has been great but I dont want to be contacting her for every meal i make. So far my machine is a glorified food processer/steamer/bakers hand ... Im sure it will get better but very disheartening when you expect one thing and its so no what you thought.
Head Office should also consider the RENT TRY BUY system, I think it would save disappointment when people actually receive their machine if they have had the time to get used to it. The fact that you cant buy extra thermoservers is also disappointing especially when you see them on EBAY for crazy prices, if they were easily available to owners of Thermomix ebay couldnt demand such crazy prices.
Head Office should consider putting out a book that comes with the machine - Tips shortcuts, favourite staples etc.. I will keep trying after all I own it now. There is an upside, It has inspired me to get creative in the kitchen and above all my children are not eating processed food so there is a start.
If there is any veteran master thermi chef in st george area that is happy to give me some tips on meat not tasting broiled that would be awesomely appreciated.
Are there any day classes is st george sutherland area? Who is the st george area consultant any ideas? Tips for food meats not tadting broiled when using the varoma would be much appreciated
I have now had my TMX for week & a half & am loving it. I have made so many different things in it. I am still very excited about it & love telling people about what I have done in it & what it can do. So have to say I am a very satisfied customer
We are glad to hear that you are being well looked after by your Consultant. Your Consultant is a great source of advice, and can also be readily available to provide handy tips and hints on how you can best convert your recipes.
If you wish to, please contact your Consultant and come along to a Cooking with Varoma cooking class. You can create delicious meals in your Varoma!
Just a suggestion a section for tried and tested tips/short cuts. In scrolling through endless posts i have picked up a few bits and pieces that have been helpful. A conversion App would be a major winner too
Hi Ladies my consultant is amazing, certainly not lacking support. I think what i need to do is sort out how i convert my recipes to thermi recipes and this may help. I have made stock, the biggest complaint seem to come from varoma cooked food. It really relates to meat poulty seafood tasting broiled. I will persevere. At the moment i am really just using it as a food processor and breadmaker - but i will keep trying. Is there a helpful link or formula for converting maybe this may be my answer, until then im heavily marinating. Tonight i am marinating chicke qnd snapper for the meals i may consider trying tommorow. Thank you for your replies.
Thank you for your feedback. We’d recommend getting in touch with your Consultant who can come back and show you how to create the recipes.
As we have mentioned before on this thread, relearning how to cook with the Thermomix can be an adjustment and take some time to master. If you haven't already done so, we would recommend that you make the Vegetable Stock Concentrate.
Make sure that you are always using your stock concentrate to add flavour. When cooking curries or sauces that need thickening we also like to remove the MC and place the TM basket on top so that the sauce can reduce which will condense the flavour.
You can also contact your Consultant who can register you for the next Back to Basics cooking class in your area, where you can get tips and hints on how to get the most out of your Thermomix
Call your consultant and get him/her to help you. You can chat about the style of food you like to cook and how to infuse those flavours into the Thermomix cooking. I really like the curries in the "Fast and Easy Indian" cookbook as they taste more "authentic" to me. I found the curries in the EDC quite light.
Hope you get some help as I now love the food that comes out ot if.
Im day one and hoping that I too havent made a costly mistake ... couldnt bear to hear the chimes of I told you so .. food is so watery and bland omg disappointed much so far.
Chrissy I have just had the same conversation with my hubby. I just received my TM and i made a curry chicken dish omg it was disgusting ... so very very bland. Someone suggested that I sear meat before using ther Varoma... mmm I am starting to panic .. I know its day one but arrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhh... I am going to try make friends with the machine in hope that I can prove hubby wrong about 2k waste.
Wow! I can't believe people are finding TM food bland! If you want some flavour-packed nutritious food, visit the quirky cooking blog. Awesome recipes on there! Don't stick to the EDC book.
My TM is getting sent back, although not by choice. The motor has died and needs to be looked at. My consultant is amazing but sadly I can't say the same about the service team. I've been without my TM for a week and I'm still waiting for someone to arrange the courier to collect it. Doesn't sound like a long time but it is when you your TM 4-5 times a day!
Hi, we're very sorry to hear you haven't been satisfied with your Thermomix. Have you contacted your Consultant? Your Consultant can come back and give you some tips, and show you how to create the recipes. Or if you can let us know which area you are in - and we can book you into a Back to Basics cooking class that can show you how to maximise the use of your Thermomix.

Would be interested to know what you think of it after you have used it a couple of times. I am not impressed at the moment. Watery, tasteless, takes heaps longer than I was led to believe, and so much washing up! And the worse thing is that you can't hear the TV over the machine, it's so loud!
Hi, I haven't received my TMX yet but am looking forward to getting it. I have a friend who uses hers at least 2 times per day. I see that some of you are not happy with your purchase, I am hoping that I am not going to be the same. It is a big investment & I am hoping that it is going to pay off in the long run. Chrissy, do you still have yours or did you get rid of it. I would like to know seeings you were so unhappy with it, I would also like to hear from the other people too :)
OOhhh my gosh day five with my new Tmx and am in Thermo heaven I have used it every day at least 8 times a day So excited by it can believe how easy it is to use and adapt to my own recipes!!!! Didn't have a demonstration as am in France and bought mine in U.K with my beloved xtra Thankful we have two week school hols to play with it and going to have a dinner party so would love some easy and impressive dinner party menus please
;)DH works all day 3 days a week so great to make him soups and salads to take with super quick and easy!!! Only watched you tube videos and the recipe book to work from but it is so cook friendly! Definately worth the money in ingredients and electricity savings!! Lovin it
Hi Debby, we are sorry to hear that you are not getting the most of our your machine. We would be glad to put you in touch with your Consultant who can perhaps share with you some tips and tricks to make this work for you. Would you like to let you know who your Consultant is, and where you are located, so we can let you know when the next cooking class is in your area.
Yes am having the same problems and a bit disappointed. I use it 5 times a week and my husband says my cooking is better so I am starting to use my other appliances again. Will still go to classes and hope it gets better. Oh we'll that is life

Hi Bailey, unfortunately you've had an extremely rare run of bad luck with your machine and we're sorry you haven't received the customer service you expected. We've been unable to locate your order in our system under your Recipe Community name, can you please email marketing@thermomix.com.au with the name of your Consultant and the name your order might be under so we can follow it up for you asap.
I am very dissapointed with my Thermomix at the moment. I brought it back in Nov 12 and one it's first Demo to show me how to us it, it had to be sent away with an error. The second time around which was last week Feb 2013 so 3 months later it has come up with another error message and has been sent away once again.
I have been really disappointed with Thermomix not even careing to call me to make sure everything is ok etc. Each time I have had to chase them and each time I am told this won't happen again it's really weird that is has happened twice really doesn't make me feel great about the machine.

Also try creating some of the recipes from our recipe community. Did you know that you can rank the recipes by the highest rating and views, that way you are making recipes that have been tested and rated by other Thermomixers. Here's a couple we recommend to get you started
Hi boxes Glad to see that I am not the only person disappointed with their Thermomix Like you I was disappointed in the results of the food produced in the Thermomix, when I tod my consultant she told me I was using the wrong brand of ingredients and that's why I was getting poor results. I will be selling mine and going back to my food processor which does everything the Thermomix does except cook food. But it does slice and grate which the Thermomix doesn't do. Mama Mia why don't Thermomix mention this in their EDC book and they'll their consultants to tell us to do the same. Oh can anyone please tell me are the blades for the Thermomix meant tone sharp or blunt. I can hold mine tightly in my hands without so much as a scratch. Yet my consultant warned me to be careful of the blades has she had seen people get some nasty cuts from them. When I mentioned this to my consultants group leader she told me the blades are blunt and questioned where I got the idea they were meant to be sharp.
I have decided to try and sell my thermomix. I am disapointed with it, the food is watery and I do not like the taste. When I have tried to make bread, I have to stand and hold it on the kitchen bench so that it does not vibrate over the edge. I have gone back to my breadmaker - set and forget it - I have had the machine for six months and am not at all happy with it for the money I spent. I will probably have trouble selling it though, the price for a used one on ebay is around $1400. I feel I have wasted my money and time.
I am really sad to hear tht you have stashed your Thermomix to the back of the cupboard.
We are a couple of empty nesters now in our household and I could quite possibly say that I use it every day at least once! I get sad if a day goes by and I haven't used it.
The EDCB is fantastic for recipes (I know you have said that you have cooked every recipe), but there is a WORLD of taste and labours out there to try.
For Food Sake by Tenina is also an excellent book, as are the numerous blog sites on he web for inspirational recipes...
This week I tried making Honey Nougat..so delicious and so simple, I made raspberry, almond meringue cake and it was divine, and easy. For Christmas as gifts I made jars of "hazelnut spread with salted caramel dulce de leche" sounds fancy, tastes very expensive but was super easy to make.
Do some surfing of the web - Thermomix is really too good to be sitting in a cupboard.. There are millions of fabulous recipes and uses for your Thermomix... Even moisturiser - google Quirky Cooking.

Hi appleandblackcurrant,
It is always hard to tell who my clients are with tag names :) So glad you're over the collywobbles and hope you're loving everything!
I hope you are all enjoying the TM journey, Fiona

No you haven't. Food made in the thermie does not taste the same. Yes you need to experiment but you would do that with normal cooking.
There are recipes you will make over and over and change constantly depending on what you have in the fridge/pantry or garden even.
Pressing a button is not going to give you a 5 star meal. You have to make it and when you do use it more and more you know you've made the right choice for you and your family.

I wouldnt worry
I am finding I much prefer to tweak recipes and also just cook what I know but using the TM.

You are my consultant which is another reason why I feel so comfortablle with my decision
I realise that any recipe or form of cooking needs to be tweaked to personal taste and I look forward to doing it!

Hi appleandblackcurrant

I just need something to seamlessly help me to prepare evening meals when I get in after work - the cakes, bread, milling flours etc are really not so important to me right now
. Have I made the wrong decision?

Posts:
tasha00, I'm impressed, It sounds like Bellini give good service. Hopefully there is room on your bench for both machines. You should try the T/X custard with maybe 30g cornflour instead of 50g - it's really nice. Kindest Regards Anne
Posts:
Yep Bellini still works
I had a problem where my blade wouldn't release from the bowl (still turned just couldn't get it out to clean) but I emailed their servce department asking for advice and they had a new bowl and blade in the post to me the next day.

Hi ladies,
Like many others, I'm so sorry to hear that you haven't enjoyed your Thermi much yet.
Cheers,
kateincottesloe

At the moment i am really just using it as a food processor and breadmaker -
but i will keep trying. Is there a helpful link or formula for converting maybe this may be my answer, until then im heavily marinating. Tonight i am marinating chicke qnd snapper for the meals i may consider trying tommorow. Thank you for your replies.

Hi radeem,
Thank you for your feedback.

Hi radeem
Call your consultant and get him/her to help you. You can chat about the style of food you like to cook and how to infuse those flavours into the Thermomix cooking. I really like the curries in the "Fast and Easy Indian" cookbook as they taste more "authentic" to me. I found the curries in the EDC quite light.
Hope you get some help as I now love the food that comes out ot if.

Hi,
I am very dissapointed with my Thermomix at the moment.

Hello Roma13,
I am really sad to hear tht you have stashed your Thermomix to the back of the cupboard.
Even moisturiser - google Quirky Cooking.
good luck
