Forum ANYONE ELSE HAVING ONGOING MC ISSUES?
Further to my above post, Thermomix contacted me by phone and have offered to replace my MC. I appreciate their initiative, particularly given my machine is no longer under warranty. Having said that, I would still like to see greater accessibility to their parts. Having only one distribution centre in Perth is not convenient for their many customers. I hope this is something they will address in the future.
I'm really unhappy with the service I'm receiving from Thermomix. I have a lightly-used TM31 which had its motor replaced under warranty during the whole TM5 debacle. I suspect I got such timely service then because of all the bad press TM was receiving. However, even though my MC was very crazed, this part was not replaced and was sent back as it was. Today, it has finally split in half - no doubt it is one of the faulty ones made from the experimental material that proved to lack durability. I phoned up the service line to enquire about purchasing another one, thinking I could get one from somewhere in Brisbane. No. I have to order it from Perth and await their long delivery times (I know they are long because I recently ordered some TM5 parts for my mother as a gift). Sadly, this type of service just keeps pointing me in the direction of TM's competitors when I go for my upgrade Why is their management not comprehending that customer service and accessibility is paramount in today's market?

Hi rungirlrun,
We are getting our Customer Service team to get in touch with you today.
we contacted head office months ago about our 2 cracked (broken) MCs which were replacements, and also our cracked varoma lid, and also about our replacement bowl seal (only recieved 1, and have purchased a 2nd bowl/blade set)...all these items were going to be replaced by you, but we are still waiting....
Hi 2many2please

Yes my MC cracked only a few weeks after getting my TM and they sent me a new one, it quickly cracked too. I get the impression it is a known problem. So I have 2 cracked MCs. I recently sent my TM back for repairs (which is a whole other saga of poor after sales service from TM, but another time) and I see they are going to send me a new MC without me even mentioning it. While this is good, I am dismayed that something soooo expensive has this, and other, fairly basic faults. It is a shame too that TM have such poor after sales service, especially around repairs. For the money (and hyped sales pitches) I would have expected more. I have friends keen to buy but will be advising perhaps don't. I'm also off to Dept of Fair Trading to try and resolve my other issue.

HI
I have had my 'Ernie' since April last year and my MC is hazy and tiny cracks in it. How do I get this replaced please?
Thank you.
Hi Louismark, AnnePC and AnneTeak,
We have flagged your posts with our Service team for attention and someone will be in touch with you soon.
Hi, My MC and Varoma lid split and badly crazed shortly after I bought my TM. The lady I bought my Thermomix from is no longer a consultant and I live in a remote area and I would like to get replacements for these two items. I am interested to know if the MC from the newest model will fit the TM 31.
Please advise how to recitfy the 'beep' when my TM31 has the lid off, or even when the jug is off the unit. It's really annoying as this has suddenly started to happen and we have to move the lever slightly to stop it. Thanks heaps for any response.
My MC received a partial crack earlier this year, and I definitely only had my Thermomix for under a year. I'm worried that this is going to be a full crack soon!
There are a few cracks along the vents of the varoma lid, but i'm not too concerned about this.
Hi phwanj, please email customerservice@thermomix.com.au so we can arrange a replacement free of charge. We're very sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi
My TM31 measuring cup has had cracks all through it for some time and its just over a year old. Today whilst using it the entire measuring cup split in half. Can this be replaced without cost? I feel after 12months the measuring cup should have lasted a lot longer than it has and the many cracks/splinters in it has weakened it for it to totally split tonight.
Hi I need to buy a replacement varoma? Does anyone know how much these are and can I buy off my consultant? Thanks.
Hi butterfly88 and Peacefulree,
We have flagged your posts with our team and someone will be in touch to provide assistance.
Hi there
i have two bowls and both the MCs are badly crazed. One after only about a year. How can I get replacements?
cheers.
My replacement MC has done the same thing as the first. My varoma lid is splitting and the spatular looks so ratty we dont dare use it. My consultant left thermommix al together so what do i do?
When I purchased my TM31 in March this year the plastic components were BPA free. So in terms of buyer beware my homework was done. Unfortunately both my MC and Varoma were made of SAN polymer and started to crack. My MC was replaced and shortly my Varoma lid will also be replaced. Unfortunately these replacements do contain a small amount of BPA as per your information below. You say you reverted back to the original plastic in April this year. Obviously you have recognised the need for BPA free plastic , after all these componants are being steamed every day. Production of TM5 with BPA free material must have been well underway in April this year. How long will this investigation take place for BPA free plastics for TM31? Why is there a need for investigation when it has already been done and hence the producion of a BPA free product in TM5. My understanding of plastics and their manufacture is that the liquid plastic is poured into a mould or extruded. You were able to revert back to the " less safe" product so why not convert to the " safer product"? Why is Vorwerk not producing safe plastic simultaneously for all their machines? From my point of view I now have a machine which is in the range of the faulty ones with componants containing BPA. This was not the scenario I imagined to be in when I purchased my TM31 in March this year. I am not happy. TM31 owners should expect the same safety features as TM5 owners.
Hi istrish,
We recognise that some Thermomix customers may have a preference to use products which are not made of Bisphenol A (BPA). We can confirm that we have been advised from Vorwerk that in the lid of the Varoma and Measuring Cup there is a minimal use of BPA for the purpose of hardening. Vorwerk have undertaken independent testing by the Rhineland Technical Monitoring Authority (TUV Rheinland) to ensure that there is no transference.
In response to the preference of these customers we began manufacturing the measuring cup and Varoma lid using the alternative styrene acrylonitrile resin, commonly referred to as SAN. The replacement resin is a copolymer consisting of styrene and acrylonitrile. Production of the SAN alternatives began in January 2013. However, the SAN replacement was not as durable and the measuring cups began to craze and in some cases cracked. Due to the durability issue the decision was made to go back to the original plastic after April 2014.
The TM5 MC is made from another plastic, polyethersulfone (PES), which is BPA free. The manufacturer is now investigating producing the BPA free, PES alternatives for the TM31. We hope to have some more information regarding the availability of these products in the near future.
I bought my thermomix (TM31) just over 18ths ago. I also purchased a 2nd bowl as well. The MCs from each bowl both cracked and went cloudy, as did my varoma lid (near the air holes). All were replaced by Thermomix Australia.
I am very concerned when reading through all these comments is that the replacements I have recieved are not BPA free. Is this correct, are the replacements not in fact BPA free?
Hi kimuir,
We will send you a PM.
I also have problems with my MC. I bought my thermomix 15 months ago. The MC has never been in the dishwasher yet started getting small lines in the top after about 1 week. It is now totally crazed and has bits missing from the top. There are now 2 large cracks on either side and I am worried it will soon break into pieces.
How do I organise a replacement for this?
Hi kennedyrh,
The Thermomix Model 5 MC is BPA free, however the Varoma lid does still contain small amounts of BPA for hardening which have been tested and does not transfer into the food.
We have sent you a PM to further address any concerns you may have.
My MC was also cracked and cloudy, I was promptly sent a replacement. I have since found out that my original MC was BPA free, but this new one isnt. My Varoma lid is also now cracking around the vent holes but I do not want an old replacment lid that has BPA. I spoke to head office today and was told the TM 5 is BPA free and the cracking issues have been resolved with the new formula, but I cannot get a replacement BPA free MC or Varoma lid for the TM31. I was told it may be years as the TM5 MC does not fit the TM31. As the Varoma lids do fit both models why can I not get a replacement lid? Its not good enough, my thermie is just 1 year old, cost a fortune and where is the customer service now TM5 is out.
Yes, my consultant called me to ask if my MC has any cracks in it and said there was a bad batch. My TM is 9 months old. She sent me a new MC.
Hi Tm, have had my machine 4mths and also noticed the MC has got a opaque etched look. Not cracking but definately does not look as it did new. Is this expected after use? Never been in the dishwasher. Thanks.
Hi Tracey2014,
We have dropped you a PM.
Hi there!
I have also noticed cracks in my MC and Varoma lid and was wondering if I would be able to get replacements for these parts please?
Thanks!!
Thanks TiA, I just spoke to the service people and it will be sent soon.
Hi christiho, allrounder, niccoletta19 and sharonjoym
We have sent you PMs.
Hi I have had my Thermomix for about 18 months & I also have lots of cracks in the MC and cracks in the varoma lid radiating out from each steam vent in the lid. I don't use the varoma nearly as much as the thermomix. After seeing the posts concerning this I also checked my spare bowl with a MC & discovered there is a crack in that as well I have only used the spare bowl occasionlly. I also have found that the spatula also has bits coming off it too.
I had thought about buying a new MC but now that I have seen all these posts I decided to post this. I am very happy with my thermomix but find that this is not acceptable considering the cost of the machine. Please advise.
I brought my TM in April this year. The MC is badly cracked already and looks ready to break. Can this be replaced?
Thanks
