We cant have fresh lime or lemon juice, however I can make a substitute using CItric acid for lemon juice.  I will have a play in the next day or so.  I was just hoping there would be a nice simple recipe out there somewhere that I could just follow, but I guess not.

Also I just realised that there is vinegar in that bottle I buy, the acetic acid is vinegar, however I had no idea, and its not something that jumped out at me to avoid.  Which means that the bottle of sweet chilli we have will need to be consumed by the kids and not me, and in small amounts (which it already was being used in).

I think the vinegar is a major component of plain sweet chili. Can you substitute lemon or lime juice? One recipe I found was just sugar, garlic, salt, chili vinegar and water. You might experiment with lime juice, salt chili sugar and water. oh yes arrow root or corn flour to thicken.

Thanks Moreta,

I think most will have garlic listed, I had planned just to leave it out.

That one also has fish sauce, which is also not ok for us.  I wonder if there is something I can have that we can substitute for it.  Although I am not liking my chances, will consult google.

This recipe has no vinegar. It does have garlic but I guess you could just leave it out.

Hi All,

I am looking for a sweet chilli sauce recipe that doesn't contain vinegar.  Google was less than helpful with this.

The ingriedients listed on my bought bottle are:

Water, Sugar, Golden Syrup, Salt, Thickener(modiefied corn starch), Acidity regulator (Acetic Acid) Garlic 1.5% Spice, Honey 0.5%, Chilli 0.5% Vegetable Gum (Xanthun).

I would prefer to make it myself if I can, partly because I really shouldn't eat Garlic, and partly because I am not sure what Modified cornstarch is and I am sure I could do it cheaper, especially if I keep the top ingriedient as water.

Any help with this would be appreciated greatly. Thanks.

Amy
