Recipe's preparation

    Date Scones
  1. Preheat oven to 190 degC if FF or 200 degC normal.

Line an oven tray with baking paper

'Soak' dates in Golden Syrup for a min of an hour.

Chop dates - Speed 6 / 15 seconds. Set aside. No need to wash bowl.

Place flour and butter in TM bowl and Mix 10 seconds / speed 9 - should be bread crumb consistency.

Add egg, milk, cream and chopped dates and Mix for 10 seconds / Speed 4 until mixture is combined.

Knead Dough mode"Dough mode" mixture for 30 seconds.

Pour dough mixture onto floured surface or use the Thermomat - place a sheet of baking paper on the Thermomat. Lightly pat dough into 2cm thickness - place another sheet of baking paper on top and roll to an even thickness.

NOTE: dough will be quite sticky - this is fine.

Cut into rounds with scone cutter.  Place scones touching each other onto oven tray. Glaze with a little milk.

Place in oven and bake for 10-15 minutes.

Cool in a clean tea towel on a wire rack.

Serve warm or cool with butter or cream and jam.

Tip

Keep scones as even in diameter and height as possible so they all cook evenly - best placed in the centre of oven.

    TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.
Please note that the TM5 mixing bowl has a larger capacity than the TM31 (capacity of 2.2 liters instead of 2.0 liters for TM 31). Recipes for the Thermomix TM5 may not be cooked with a Thermomix TM31 for safety reasons without adjusting the quantities. Risk of scalding by spraying of hot liquids: Do not exceed the maximum filling quantity and observe the filling level markings of the mixing bowl!
