Ingredients

Hard boiled eggs

  • 6 eggs
  • 500 g water

Blue dyed eggs

  • 300 g red cabbage, roughly chopped
  • 500 g water
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 4 Hard boiled eggs, prepared above

Red dyed eggs

  • 300 g Beetroot, peeled and diced into 1-2cm cubes
  • 300 g water
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 2 Hard boiled eggs, prepared above

Recipe's preparation

    Prepare hard boiled eggs
  1. 1. Add 500g water to the thermomix bowl.

    2. Place eggs into steamer basket, and insert steamer basket into bowl (you can prepare more eggs at this stage if you like - I fitted 12 into my steamer basket)

    3. Cook for 12 minutes, Speed 1, Varoma temperature.

    4.Remove steamer basket using spatula and cool eggs under running water, then set aside.

  2. Prepare blue dyed eggs
  3. 1. Place cabbage into bowl and chop for 5 seconds, Speed 5

    2. Add water and cook for 15 minutes, Counter-clockwise operation"Counter-clockwise operation" , Speed 1

    3. Place 4 hard boiled eggs into a container 

    4. Strain the liquid into container with the eggs. Use the steaming basket for straining the liquid (hold in place with spatula and ensure the pouring spout of basket aligns with Themomix bowl spout).

    5. Add 2 TBspn vinegar to the dye+eggs, cover and refridgerate overnight.

    6. Add butter and seasoning to taste to the cabbage and serve as a side dish.

    7. Carefully remove eggs from container using tongs and leave on paper towel to dry (avoid touching the wet surface as you may wipe off the colour)

  4. Prepare red dyed eggs
  5. 1. Place beetroot into bowl, add water and cook for 15 minutes, Counter-clockwise operation"Counter-clockwise operation" Gentle stir setting"Gentle stir setting"

    2. Place 2 hard boiled eggs into a container 

    3. Strain the liquid into container with the eggs. Use the steaming basket for straining the liquid (hold in place with spatula and ensure the pouring spout of basket aligns with Themomix bowl spout).

    4. Add 1 TBspn vinegar to the dye+eggs, cover and refridgerate overnight.

    5. Beetroot cubes can be used in salad or as season and serve as side dish

    6. Carefully remove eggs from container using tongs and leave on paper towel to dry (avoid touching the wet surface as you may wipe off the colour)

Tip

Store eggs in the fridge until the hunt and then the eggs can be peeled and eaten.

White eggs will give the most vivid colours. The darkest blue/green egg in the photos is a brown egg.

Taking the eggs out of the dye earlier will yield lighter colours. The cold dye can be reused, but may not give as bright results.

The papery part of red onion skins can also be cooked and used to dye eggs in the same way - Maroon/Red eggs.

Tumeric (2TBspn:250mL water) could be cooked in a pot and used to dye eggs in the same way - Yellow eggs.

I also tried spinach but did not get a good result (the funny tan egg at the back of photo)
