Ingredients

Crumble base

  • 180 grams raw sugar
  • 200 grams soft butter
  • 150 grams Whole wheat grain
  • 250 grams plain flour

Fig Filling

  • 360 grams dried figs, stems snipped off
  • 250 grams apple juice
  • 45 grams sugar
  • 45 grams plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla paste or extract

Recipe's preparation

    Crumble Base
  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees.  Line a large slice tin (or lamington tin) with baking paper.  Mill whole wheat grains for 1 minute, speed 9.  Add sugar, mill 10 seconds, speed 9.  Add remaining crumble ingredients, mix for 10 seconds, speed 6.  Stir, repeat.   Assist with spatula if necessary.  Remove.  Spread half the mixture in the slice tin and press down with a spoon to make an even surface.

  2. Place figs, juice, 45g flour, 45g sugar and vanilla in bowl.  Blend 20 seconds, speed 8.  Stir and repeat, assist with spatula.  Spread mixture evenly over crumble base.  Top with remaining crumble mixture.  Bake 45 minutes at 180 degrees.

    I had some fig jam and hubby was asking if i would make a fig slice. Used all plain flour as I didn’t have whole grains but it still turned out great. The base and top were just like shortbread, very yummy. Has gone in to my favourites folder. Thank you for posting this recipe.

    Yes, I found out that you can buy whole wheat grain at IGA supermarkets or your local Health Food Store.

    I love this recipe because it's very quick to make and uses healthy ingredients.  Not to mention it makes a lot of portions...!
