Recipe's preparation

    Mighty Might
  1. In the bowl of your Thermomix weigh in the yeast, molasses, tamari and spoon in the stock concentrate and the water. If using powdered stock add 1 tsp extra water.

  2. Cook for 4 mins./70°C/speed 2. It should be smooth and well mixed. Blend for another 4-6 secs./speed 4 only if needed.
  3. Spoon into a clean jar and store in the fridge.
  4. Spread on crackers or sandwiches with butter or cheese (or how your kids like their Mighty Might).

  5. Optional Extras
  6. If adding cheese, blend it first with the yeast flakes before you add the rest of the ingredients. Proceed as normal.
  7. If adding butter then simply whip it in at the end for 6 secs./speed 4. As the Mighty Might is hot you don't need to soften the butter.
  8. For OMEGA Mighty Might add the flax or chia oil at the end and mix in or 6 secs./speed 4

Tip

This is a really fantastic savoury yeast and veggie spread. Savoury yeast flakes, also known as nutritional yeast, are a good source of B Vitamins. Molasses is high in Iron and your EDC stock gives it the "Veggie". Using Tamari or soy and not salt makes it much lower in sodium than some "Aussie" spreads that are not even Aussie owned.  Making your own Mighty Might is super easy and quick and it is 100% Australian made and owned! (LOL)

I have noticed there are different Nutritional Yeasts available. Almost grainy/floury and flaky. I am confused about which one is best... Can you advise?

Very, very sticky next time I will add more water so it is spreadable.
We are a Vegemite house, and this is more like marmite or promite, so the kids aren't 100% sure about it. But it's so exciting to be able to make this myself!!!!
Heated with water for scrolls, yum!

ps - I only added the water as you suggested the other day after making the spread, and added it to soup I was making - delicious!!!

I shan't be wasting the bits in the bowl any more and washing them down the sink!

Thanks again so much for coming up with this fabulous spread - I tend to put everything in the bowl, except for extra butter (optional extra listed) and heat for 8 mins - I scrape down the sides about 2 mins before cooking is complete but otherwise follow to the letter! Yummo Cooking 4

This is a fantastic recipe - I make it every couple of months and always make double - it appears to keep out of the fridge for ever and never goes mouldy - I am addicted to it! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!!! I usually use the butter option but also add a bit of coconut oil too - thanks again - I am always telling people about your recipe - I hope that's ok!!! I couldn't wait to try this recipe and I REALLY wanted to like it as I hate all the additives in Vegemite and my kids love it! Unfortunately I found the taste and smell quite awful and the spread, very grainy and almost impossible to spread out of the fridge. I love your work though and I have so many more of your recipes I can't wait to try. Sorry this one didn't do it for us tmrc_emoticons.(

So glad I could help! I have been desperate for a mighty kick myslef. One without the elusive "vege" component that is not really very clear (no veggies on the ingredinets list that I can see). So I made sure my might spread did have veggies (by using the lovely EDC stock). Plus we are grain free at the moment.

Please do let me know how you go, it is very sticky when you make, it so get it out of the Thermomix while it is still warm. The heating is important as it lets the yeast flakes melt and the might come together.

A good tip is to pour in hot water once you have scraped it all out and do the "self clean" by pressing turbo a few times, but save the liquid and drink it as a lovely soup. With a bit of spinach or some sping onion or chives its like a beef bullion.

    Enjoy!

What perfect timng! I just bought a packet of nutritional yeast and a jar of molasses - nice to know I can get my vegemite kick without all the nasty ingredients ("colours" and "flavours", who needs 'em? Yick)
