I'm cooking this today

Recipe's preparation

    Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees

  2. Mill 1 cup of rolled oats until a fine crumb size - speed 7 for 15-20 seconds. Set aside in a bowl.

  3. Mash and Veggies
  4. MASH

Peel Potato and Sweet Potato and cut into cubes

  5. Boil for 20 minutes or until cooked and allow to cool.

(You could do these in the Thermomix but I wanted to prep at the same time as veggies)

  6. VEGGIES

Cut veggies into manageable chunks (you may need to do 2 batches) and add to bowl.

  7. Process on speed 6 - for 10-15 seconds.

Repeat if required until you have fairly small chunks.

  8. Remove veggies into a bowl.

    (No need to wash bowl)

  9. Combine
  10. Puree Potato and Sweet Potato Mix - speed 6 for 10-15 seconds

  11. Ensure mash is cool before adding chicken.

Add mince to bowl and combine well - speed 6 for 10 seconds.

  12. Add diced veggies to bowl

Mix to combine - 10 seconds, speed 4, Reverse

  13. You have 2 OPTIONS with your oats - add at this stage (lazy option in the mix) or hold until next stage and roll them in the crumbs.

  14. If rolling in Oats -

Add flour if required (depending how wet your mince and veggies were). You want balls to be moist but hold their shape.

Mix to combine - 15 seconds, speed 4, Reverse

  15. If you have added oats to the mix you shouldn't require any flour.

  16. Cook
  17. Form small balls of mix (about a dessert spoon) onto a lined baking tray.

  18. If you elected to roll balls in the oat crumb - do so at this stage and then onto baking trays.

  19. Bake in a preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown

  20. Alternatively you could shallow fry balls in batches

Tip

* You can use any mince that you like - turkey, chicken etc work well as more moisture content

* You can use any vegetables that are in season or that you have available

* Vegetables can be chunkier or finer depending on the age of the child

*Mixture can be made as firm or as soft as your child prefers. To make more firm, you can add an egg when the flour is added. To make mushier, add less flour / some water.

*If you made a smaller batch these could be fried rather than baked.

*Freeze in batches and defrost a few as required

    TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.
Please note that the TM5 mixing bowl has a larger capacity than the TM31 (capacity of 2.2 liters instead of 2.0 liters for TM 31). Recipes for the Thermomix TM5 may not be cooked with a Thermomix TM31 for safety reasons without adjusting the quantities. Risk of scalding by spraying of hot liquids: Do not exceed the maximum filling quantity and observe the filling level markings of the mixing bowl!

More like veggie mash balls than chicken balls and were a bit dry, but my little one still likes them. Very fiddly to make too. Would probably change up the ingredients if I made again
