  • 1.5 litres Milk, Any type according to your taste. Full fat, semi skim, skim.
  • 100 grams caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, use the high quality type with vanilla seeds
  • 300 grams rice

Recipe's preparation

  1. Please note:  I've only used arborio rice as this is the type of rice which gives the best soft texture.

    Place all ingredients in TM Bowl. 

    Engage reverse on blades and mix on .5 speed until all ingredients are mixed - 20 seconds maximum.

    Turn timer to 30 minutes.

    Turn heat to 90 degrees.

    Turn speed to 1 on reverse blades.

    After 1/2 hour, you will see that the mixture is thickening, but not enough to cook rice.

    Turn timer to 30 minutes.

    Turn heat to 90 degrees.

    Turn speed to 1 on reverse blades.

    After second 30 mins, pour into clean serving dish, cover, allow to cool and then put into the refrigerator to set.  Serve with Thermomix custard.

    This is the Thermomix version of my mum's stovetop recipe. 

    Note:  You can add sultanas, currents or raisins to taste.  Please add them with all ingredients at the start of the recipe.  I would start with 50 grams only.

Make sure the measuring cup is in place!

    If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
    For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.
    Please note that the TM5 mixing bowl has a larger capacity than the TM31 (capacity of 2.2 liters instead of 2.0 liters for TM 31). Recipes for the Thermomix TM5 may not be cooked with a Thermomix TM31 for safety reasons without adjusting the quantities. Risk of scalding by spraying of hot liquids: Do not exceed the maximum filling quantity and observe the filling level markings of the mixing bowl!
