Recipe's preparation

Recipe has been adapted from the Woolworths Fresh Magazine.
  1. Preheat oven to 140 degrees, fan forced. Line a lamington tray with baking paper. I used a tin approx 25 x 10 cm as I like the bars to be a little thicker.

Place the mixed nuts in the bowl and chop on speed 5 for 10-15 seconds, adjust speed and time for your preferred consistency. Set aside.

Weigh all other ingredients using your thermomix and set aside, with the nuts into a LARGE mixing bowl.

At this point I made my own butter in the thermomix from the EDC and then proceeded to make my own condensed milk from the Recipe Community.

Is using a tin of condensed milk, place it into a small saucepan and heat over medium heat until warm.

Pour the condensed milk into the LARGE bowl with the dried mix. Combine well.

Pour mixture into the prepared lamington tin, press down firmly with the back of a wooden sppon and then bake in the oven for 50-60 mins or until golden. Allow to cool completely in the tray, then remove and slice.

    NOTE:

I used a combination of dried dates and cranberries as I didn't have any apple. You could use any fruit you like.

To make this recipe nut free, use a combination of seeds eg. pepitas, sunflower seeds, sesame, chia. Just make sure the weight is the same.

I sprinkled the mkxture with choc chips before placing in the oven, hopefully making it child friendly. Make sure to press them into the mixture.

These were lovely. I added choc chips throughout and on top. Very nice.

Finally a muslie bar my kids will eat!  Even though the condensed milk is not so healthy, the amount of sugar is so much less then a 'packaged' muslie bar, and nil the nasties. I'd rather they eat these than the packaged stuff. Very yummy. Thanks.
