Love the flavours, but way too sweet.
Next time I will half the sugar, double the cornflour and salt

  • 16. October 2017 - 19:34

200g sugar, doubled the cornflour and vinegar. Added a leftover cucumber and capsicum. Omitted the curry powder and used mustard seed instead of powder. Also added 3tbsp tomato paste some coriander seed and black pepper.

This produced a lovely 'pure tomato' kind of relish. Still a bit on the sweet side, will decrease sugar by another 50g and add one more tbsp vinegar.

If you are wanting a little bit of a kick, add about 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper.
I double the cornflour to 2 tablespoons.

Delicious!! I halved the sugar and doubled the corn flour. Thanks for sharing!

I make this quite regularly - delicious. I try to reduce the sugar quite a bit, but the relish generally doesn't last for as long.

I had just started cooking this when I read all the comments.... A few 4 letter words were used once I read them all tmrc_emoticons.p

Somehow I managed to save it by- Adding 3 pinches of Vegeta Original, doubling the cornflour, adding a touch more curry powder. I also removed the MC and used the simmering basket instead.

I will be very interested in seeing how it keeps. Fingers crossed

Just add more vinegar and cornflour to it

  • 17. February 2016 - 20:32

Can't believe I didn't read the comments first. WAY too sweet. Not sure what to do with it now. Very disappointed.

This recipe has a serious problem. Definitly not enough vinegar. 4 batches need to be binned. I believe the sugar without enough acid is fermenting in the jars. Very disappointed.  Will try another recipe in  future.

Reduce the liquid and use more "solids". Firm tomatoes, onion etc.
