I make this soup a lot. Adding cayenne pepper definitely adds to the taste, I think. Delicious!

Delicious - have made this twice now, this time with double the lentils and half the water, just perfect for my family's taste - thank you!

Thanks a lot for this recipe, it was really really delicious! A must try!!

I modified it a bit (not that it needed it, but nonetheless I thought I'd pass it on FYI):

I used 1 can of chopped tomatoes and 2 very ripe truss tomatoes, with cut in quarter, and blended.

I also added a carrot and a stalk of celery and sauteed with onion and garlic etc.

I only had 1 red capsicum, but it worked out ok.

For seasoning, I used some chilli, paprika, smoked paprika, half a teaspoon of cumin seeds and half a teaspoon of cinnamon. I also added a few slices of pickled jalapenos.

In terms of rice, I milled 60 grams of brown rice.

That is all for me! Cheers again!  tmrc_emoticons.)

    Yum! This was delicious!

I reduced water to 350ml to ensure a thicker consistency!

    Perfect.

You could add some more milled rice / lentils/cornflour.  Alternatively you could add some cream - thats for a thicker consistancy.

If its not smooth enough you need to blend it for longer or on a higher speed - 9/10.

    I hope this helps!
