I'm cooking this today

Recipe's preparation

  1. Let's talk about mash potatoes - potato mash 🥔You've probably heard a lot about it being made in the Thermomix and as people are different - so are their preferences when it comes on how do they like their mashed potatoes. Fair enough. So I'd like to show you how I make mine, as the outcome is exactly how my family likes it:

1 kg potatoes peeled cut in 1-2 cm cubes
    280 g milk
    100 g Butter (salted)
1 pinch salt (I only use pink Himalayan)
1 pinch nutmeg (can't have a mash without it)

No Butterfly - we like it with a few pieces in it, but if you prefer it completely creamy, add the butterfly before cooking. Just be aware, the potato pieces might knock it off... so “cooking with your ears” is essential here...

25 min/100C/reverse!/speed 1/steaming basket instead of measuring cup

Reverse is important because the knifes tend to cut the starches out of the potatoes during cooking and this will make the mash "gooey".

Tip

Always cook, mix, whip,... your mash on reverse to avoid gluggy consistency.

    Recipe is created for
    TM 6
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

    TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.
Please note that the TM5 mixing bowl has a larger capacity than the TM31 (capacity of 2.2 liters instead of 2.0 liters for TM 31). Recipes for the Thermomix TM5 may not be cooked with a Thermomix TM31 for safety reasons without adjusting the quantities. Risk of scalding by spraying of hot liquids: Do not exceed the maximum filling quantity and observe the filling level markings of the mixing bowl!
