Ingredients
Syrup
- 500 g water
- 375 g sugar
- 1 tsp lime juice
- 1 tsp orange juice
Basbousa Batter
- 2 eggs
- 200 g sugar
- 250 g Butter, cubed
- 250 g yoghurt
- 500 g semolina
- 2 tsp Vanilla Paste
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 250 g dessicated coconut
extras
- 100 g blanched almonds, for the decoration
- Butter, for greasing the tray

- Put water in the bowl and add sugar. Mix 85 degrees speed 3 for 5 minutes - or until all sugar is disolved
Raise temperature to 100 degrees.
Add lime and orange juice. Continue boiling this solution for about 10 minutes.
If they syrup is not continue to boil for longer.
Leave syrup to cooling.
Sugar syrup is ready. - Add eggs and mix on 3 speed 6 for 2 minutes.
Add sugar, mix untill the sugar dissolves completely.
Put cubed butter through Measuring Cup holel
Put yogurt into the bowl and
Now add semolina, vanilla flavor, baking powder and mix well. Finally add desiccated coconut and mix everything well.
The batter is ready.
This is not of a flowing consistency. Grease the baking tray with butter.
Transfer the batter to the tray. Spread evenly.
Leave it for about 30 minutes to set properly. Cut as per the design required.
Now place the peeled almonds (step 2) on each piece. Basbousa is ready to go into the baking oven. - Preheat oven for 15 minutes at 190°C.
Bake for 35 minutes at the same temperature or till the color changes to golden brown.
Take out of the oven retrace the cuts.
Now pour the sugar syrup prepared on the basbousa while its still hot. Pour till it is well moist.
Sweet, moist Basbousa is ready ….
