Ingredients
cake base
- 220 g raw sugar
- 220 g Butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 100 g Milk
- 220 g Self Raising Flour
stewed apples
- 10 granny smith apples
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon - ground
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 500 g water
creme patisserie
- 150 g sugar
- 90 g plain flour
- 3 eggs
- 1000 g Milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
topping
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon - ground

Line a 20cm x 30cm x 5-7cm baking dish (roasting pan works well or large pyrex dish) set aside
set oven at 180deg C
Place raw sugar into mixing bowl and mill 5 sec/speed 9.
Add butter and mix 15 sec/speed 5.
Add eggs and mix 15 sec/speed 5.
Add milk and vanilla mix 10 secs/speed 5.
Add flour and mix 10-15 sec (max)/speed 5.
Spread batter into baking dish and bake 20 minutes 180 C.
ensure that the cake is cooked through and golden
Remove from oven and set aside.
Peel, core and slice apples.
Arrange in varoma dish and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
Add water into mixing bowl and set varoma in place.
Steam for 20 min/Varoma/speed 3.
Set aside to cool for a few minutes.
NOTES
sugar can be reduced (see comments below for what has bee trialled)
slice can be frozen!
delish served hot with a scoop of icecream or served warm as a slice
or cold!
Holds together perfectly and is easy to serve simply on a napkin when cold - making it a great picnic dessert

This was a hit with the family! Very easy to make and absolutely yummy! I did cut sugar 170g in the cake base and 70g in the custard, and none in the apples and it was still sweet enough for us, but personal choice
I also cooked the apples in the TM bowl - saved on slicing and easier to spread over the base!

OMFG, this recipe is ridiculously delicious!! It is bakery worthy, I made it for a work morinng tea and everyone took a bite and said 'WOW"!! I mixed pears and apples and only used 800ml of milk in the custard.. This is definitley a regular in my cookboook!!!
Great recipe, I used all my Cinnaom in the steamed apples. So I rushed out to get more for the topping. In my haste I bought Chinese Five Spice instead. Only realised my mistake once it was in the oven and thought it did not smell right. I took it to work the next day (as my fussy family thought it had a liquorice taste) my colleagues enjoyed it!!
