Ingredients
BASE
- 250 g walnuts
- 90 g sugar
- 50 g dark couverture chocolate 70% (or 50%)
- 250 g soda water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 100 g honey
- 100 g vegetable oil
- 200 g bakers flour or plain flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
FILLING
- 450 g walnuts
- 200 g sugar
- 50 g dark couverture chocolate 70% (or 50%)
- 70 g water
- 200 g Nuttelex
- 20 g cacao powder or cocoa powder
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
EXTRA
- 200 g walnuts, roughly to finely chopped for coating

We need to prepare filling first as this needs to cool down before using on the base.
. Place 450g walnuts into TM bowl sp9 4 sec. Set aside
. Without rinsing bowl, place dark chocolate into bowl, sp9 5 sec. Set aside.
. Without rinsing bowl, place 200g sugar into bowl, sp9 10 sec
. Add to the sugar the previously ground chocolate & 70g water.
. Cook 90 deg 2.30min sp 3. Let cool to 37deg.
. Once cooled, add previously chopped walnuts, mix 15sec sp4.
. Add 200g nuttelex, 2 tsp vanilla extract & 20g cacao or cocoa
. Mix sp5 50sec. Set aside in another bowl to cool completely.
. Line a 20 x 30cm lamington tin or any deep rectangular dish of this size.
. Preheat oven to 170deg C. Fan forced.
. Place 250g walnuts into TM bowl sp9 4 sec. Set aside
. Without rinsing bowl, grind 50g dark chocolate sp9 5 sec. Set aside.
. Without rinsing bowl, place 90 g sugar sp9 10 sec.
. Add ground chocolate back into bowl, add soda water, vanilla extract, honey, vegetable oil and cook 90deg, 2.30min sp 2-3.
. Add flour, baking powder & previously ground walnuts.
. Combine sp5 1 minute.
. Pour into lined tin and bake for approx 15 - 20 min, depending on your oven, or until skewer comes out clean.
. Once the base has cooled, cut down the centre length ways so you end up with 2 long rectangular pieces.
. Gently peel one of the layers (one of the rectangular pieces) off the baking paper and place onto a long serving tray/platter.
. Spread some of the cooled filling over the first layer, then repeat with the second. Cover the torte all over with the remaining filling and sprinkle with ground walnuts. Set in fridge for a few hours before serving!

This is a very popular and traditional European (Macedonian) Torte.
Hope you enjoy this delicious Walnut Torte, it will serve quite a few slices as it is quite decadent, so great to make for entertaining a large number of guests. It also freezes well, if there are any left overs
* If dairy is not an issue you could substitute Nuttelex with normal unsalted butter.
