Ingredients

Hearty Baked Beans

  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 100 grams ham, (thickly sliced leg) chopped
  • 1/2 leek, white section, chopped into three
  • 1 green capsicum, (small) roughly chopped, seeds removed
  • 1 red capsiucm, (small) roughly chopped, seeds removed
  • 1 stick Celery, cut in thirds
  • 400 grams organic tinned chopped tomatoes
  • 2 x 400 grams organic tinned canelli beans, rinse thoroughly & drain
  • 1 tbsp Rice malt syrup
  • 1/2-1 tsp Chinese 5 spice
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper, (depending on how hot you like it)

Recipe's preparation

    Instructions
  1. Chop the ham in the thermomix bowl, Spd 5, 2 seconds. Scrape sides and check there are no large pieces.
  2. Add olive oil and cook at 80deg, reverse Spd 2, 4 minutes
  3. Pour bacon into a bowl & put aside
  4. Add leek, celery, capsicums and chop on speed 6 for 3 seconds
  5. Return bacon to bowl
  6. Cook at reverse Spd 2, 80deg for 4 minutes
  7. Add rice malt syrup, spices and tomatoes
  8. Cook reverse speed 1, 100deg for 10 minutes
  9. Add cannelli beans (well drained) and mix reverse Spd 1, 3 minutes

Tip

Serve with crusty bread, lashings of butter and some freshly cracked pepper.
