I place dumplings in a casserol dish, cover wit the syrp and bake for 25min - gives a crunchy top
I haven't had homemade golden syrup dumplings before so I don't have anything to compare to, but to me these were great - tasty, easy, using staple ingredients.
I used the altered suggestions and thought they came out really well. The sauce seemed a bit thin at first but after standing it thickened up somewhat. The dumplings didn't soak up any sauce but there was plenty there to dunk them in, so it was fine.
They didn't taste as sweet as I thought they would, but that's not a bad thing!
Love them
Wooo hoooo, a child hood favourite, Thermofied.
i had tried this out ages ago, but, found it a bit bland, too runny and my dumplings were hard little nuts.
Nervously revisited it tonight, taking on board so many consistent comments in this forum, and, viola! Success.
Left generous sized teaspoon of dough in unwashed bowl, 350 g water, 40 g Golden Syrup & 120g brown sugar at speed 3.5 on Varoma. They really were golden, fluffy dumplings, in syrupy gooey, yummo sauce.
Next time I may use even more Golden syrup, and, some butter to make it richer.
Thank you for this recipe, and HUGE thanks to forum contributors, constructively sharing experiences and ideas. Love it and my Thermie, Thelma.
And again (July 2023) for Baby Bro who gave it "Mum's stamp of approval".
Failed to read properly, didn't see speed of 3.5 as no speed in main recipe, so I just used 1 on reverse. Dumplings (smaller @ 22), soft & fluffy, but sauce a bit runny. I sat in saucepan for about an hour, then gently warmed before serving. Huge hit. Would easily serve 4-5 people for desert.
The syrup was a huge fail, too runny and not much flavour. Tipped it out and used another recipe. Dumplings didn't soak up much syrup either.
Just made theses per your instructions and have now been asked for again tomorrow night by the family 🙊 Thanks for the recipe
Fabulous sauce was a little thin but I just left a bit more mixture in the bowl the second time I made it
Not great... syrup way too runny, dumplings much too dry (and wouldn't soak up the liquid at all). I think less water, reduce the sugar and increase the golden syrup will help.
These will be on the menu again, they were devoured with great gusto...
i doubled this and my dumplings worked out great ,sauce was a little thin so i added corn flour ,would reduce water next time but it was loved by all
