I'm cooking this today

Recipe's preparation

    dumplings
  1. Add everything to TM bowl.  Mix on speed 4 for 15-20 seconds.  It should have formed a nice, lightly sticky mixture.  If too sticky add a little more flour.

  2. take most of mixture out of bowl - leaving about a teaspoon IN the bowl to thicken sauce later on.  Divide the mixture into 12

  3. Roll mixture into balls and place in Varoma.  LEAVE ROOM - they will swell

  4. Syrup
  5. add all ingredients into TM bowl.

  6. Put the lid onto the TM bowl, and the Varoma in place

  7. Cook on Varoma Temperature for 20 minutes

  8. Putting it all together
  9. When the dumplings are cooked, place into the Thermoserver.  Pour the syrup over the top.  LEAVE (if you can) for at least 5-10 minutes to allow the dumplings to soak - soaking up to 30 minutes is fine.

Tip

Caution... far too nice

If your sauce is too runny, add a little extra dough next time.

I haven't had homemade golden syrup dumplings before so I don't have anything to compare to, but to me these were great - tasty, easy, using staple ingredients.

I used the altered suggestions and thought they came out really well. The sauce seemed a bit thin at first but after standing it thickened up somewhat. The dumplings didn't soak up any sauce but there was plenty there to dunk them in, so it was fine.

They didn't taste as sweet as I thought they would, but that's not a bad thing!

Wooo hoooo, a child hood favourite, Thermofied.

i had tried this out ages ago, but, found it a bit bland, too runny and my dumplings were hard little nuts.

Nervously revisited it tonight, taking on board so many consistent comments in this forum, and, viola! Success.

Left generous sized teaspoon of dough in unwashed bowl, 350 g water, 40 g Golden Syrup & 120g brown sugar at speed 3.5 on Varoma. They really were golden, fluffy dumplings, in syrupy gooey, yummo sauce.

Next time I may use even more Golden syrup, and, some butter to make it richer.

Thank you for this recipe, and HUGE thanks to forum contributors, constructively sharing experiences and ideas. Love it and my Thermie, Thelma.

And again (July 2023) for Baby Bro who gave it "Mum's stamp of approval".

Failed to read properly, didn't see speed of 3.5 as no speed in main recipe, so I just used 1 on reverse. Dumplings (smaller @ 22), soft & fluffy, but sauce a bit runny. I sat in saucepan for about an hour, then gently warmed before serving. Huge hit. Would easily serve 4-5 people for desert.

The syrup was a huge fail, too runny and not much flavour. Tipped it out and used another recipe. Dumplings didn't soak up much syrup either.

Fabulous sauce was a little thin but I just left a bit more mixture in the bowl the second time I made it

Not great... syrup way too runny, dumplings much too dry (and wouldn't soak up the liquid at all). I think less water, reduce the sugar and increase the golden syrup will help.
