I'm cooking this todayRecipe's preparation
1. Add the coconut oil, cacao powder, honey and vanilla to the bowl and cook 37degrees/1min/sp2. The syrup should be thick and smooth.
2. Place the puffed rice into a huge bowl, pour the syrup over and stir through. It takes a bit of effort to thoroughly combine the syrup and puffed rice - but all of the rice must be coated. Keep going!
3. Spread the COPS out onto a lined (baking paper) baking tray (you will need 2-3 trays).
4. Pop into the oven at 180degrees and cook for 10mins then stir. Repeat the cooking and stirring a few times (depends on your oven but I do it 3-4 times). Leave the COPS in the trays to cool then break into your storage container. Yum yum pigs bum.
Tip
Dont rinse your bowl! Add about 500g of milk, wizz up for 20sec on sp6 for a yum chocolate milk! For hot chocolate warm it up for a few minutes to the temp you want.
The jar in the photo is 5lt in size. This mix fills a container of this size.

I used 170g bag of Abundant Earth puffed rice then halved all the syrup ingredients and that was perfect. I also subbed rice malt syrup for the honey - still sweet enough for my sweet tooth kids!
I took everyone's comments into account before trying this and I did the following and they turned out tops! I set my oven at 150 (my oven is pyroletic and heats high) and I used 1 & 1/2 boxes of freedom foods rice puffs. It did take about an hour all up, I kept stirring every 10-15 mins and I had them spread out on 3 trays.
Tastes wonderful but you can't be serious about using 1000g of puffed rice in the recipe. You'd need a bucket and a long stick to mix the ingredients! I purchased a bag of Abundant Earth puffed brown rice that's 170g in total and could barely fit them into my large salad bowl. The proportion of the cacao syrup also doesn't seem sufficient. I kept checking the recipe and wondering if I had missed something....Also at 37degree my coconut oil just wouldn't melt.... I had to increase the temperature to 50 deg and heat for 3 minutes.
But the syrup did taste amazing. I'd like to try making it again but probably won't be following the recipe next time.
I just want to clarify the cooking time before I make these- is it 10 minutes in total in the oven, stirring every few minutes?
Oh my gosh these are brilliant! Nearly made the same mistake with the cooking time. I now cook in 3 X 3 minute batches. Will never go back to store bought!
Hi Carly I have an old oven and only make a 200g batch roughly half for pops and half for crackle cakes, they are all cooked within 5 Minutes. I only have to turn the once but, they are spread out very evenly.
I've seen labels like this in Ned's.
Aaa argh! I made this and was a massive fail! I cut the recipe into tenths for 100g of puffed rice. All was ok until they went into the oven. After ten mins as the recipe says, I pulled them out to stir and they were completely burnt! Had to throw the whole lot out! I will try again but stir every two mins or so next time. Watch your pops! I'll let you know how attempt no. 2 goes.....
thanks love to know where the labels come from, please
Thanks for the recipe - made into snacks as recommended and also made some into mini patty papers. I used vanilla concentrate extract.
