TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl. Please note that the TM5 mixing bowl has a larger capacity than the TM31 (capacity of 2.2 liters instead of 2.0 liters for TM 31). Recipes for the Thermomix TM5 may not be cooked with a Thermomix TM31 for safety reasons without adjusting the quantities. Risk of scalding by spraying of hot liquids: Do not exceed the maximum filling quantity and observe the filling level markings of the mixing bowl!

Very nice soup!
I used red lentils instead and didn’t soak the lentils or the barley.
Also, I chopped the zucchini and the potato as we like it a Bit chunkier. This will definitely go onto our roster. Thanks for posting!
A delicious thick soup lovely on cold days. I added some chilli
Love this recipe, I usually leave out the barley because I find it filling enough without it. Great vegan, gluten free, healthy soup recipe that’s filling. I purée it for my one year old and he loves it. Made it over twenty times without fail features at our house once month on the menu. Never costs me more then $15 to make a whole meal.
Perfect soup, I use red split lentils & I swap out potato for fresh corn and sweet potato and add a tsp of curry powder too. Have made this literally every week for a year! Thanks!!
Easy to make. We pre-soaked the grains overnight and followed some of the other suggestions e.g. added 3 tblsp veggie stock instead of 2 tbslp, 1 teaspoons chopped chilli & 1 teaspoon chopped ginger. Used a capsicum instead of zucchini. All this created a lovely, tasty, filling and nutritious soup with plenty left over for a couple of meals. Thank you very much for the recipe.
Love love love!! Definitely our family favourite
I had issues with bubbling over, but I put the simmering basket on top and it wasn't too bad. Might have to try a little bit less liquid next time. Delicious as is, but I think I might try it with diced tomatoes instead of tomato paste next time as that's the way my mum made it growing up. Thanks for a great recipe!
This is my favourite soup recipe. I also add ginger and chilli to give it some extra flavour but doesn't last long enough in this household!
Loved it! Had to modify for my TM31 as follows:
100g dry red lentils, 50g pearl barley, 850g water.
Used only 1 potato, and added 2 stalks celery, kept everything else the same as per recipe. Hand chopped the veggies to keep the texture, personal preference only. Would work well with curry powder - will try next time
Delicious, wholesome and so easy to make . Thanks for sharing.
