Ingredients

  • 2 steaks good quality such as scotch fillet. 3 – 4 cm thick
  • Marinade; for steak
  • 2 Tbsp Hoi Sin sauce
  • 1 tbsp Parisian Essence
  • 1 tsp salt
  • T tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice wine, or dry sherry
  • 1 tbsp(2 cm ) fresh ginger
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 small red chilli
  • 2 tsp cornflour
  • Marinade for Prawns
  • 2 Tablespoons Sweet Chilli sause
  • 2 tablespoonsETA Honey Soy BBQ sause

Recipe's preparation

  1. Place garlic, ginger & chilli into the bowl. Chop at speed 9 for 6 seconds.

     Scrape down bowl. Add all other marinade ingredients to bowl mix at speed 7 for 8-10 seconds.

    Place steaks in pan and pour marinade over. Marinate at least 1 hour. Turning if not covered by marinade.

    Stir prawn marinade ingredients together in a small flat container and add raw prawns just before starting to cook steaks.

    Drain and arrange steaks on tray of Varoma. Allow space for steam to rise between.

    Put veggies of choice in the bottom of the varoma.

    Place 500 ml water in bowl. Set time for 5 min. Temp varoma speed 1. Do not place Varoma until you have steam. Then set time to 7 minutes for rare steak temp to Varoma, speed 2.

    When time is up add prawns and cook a further 5 minutes at temp Varoma, speed 2.

    To have more well done meat increase the first cooking time. I reccomend adding 5 minutes and test meat until you get the status you like.  

Tip

If you put the meat and marinade in a zip lock bag you can place in the fridge and turn easily to ensure it is evenly covered.

Add the left over marinade  plus onion and garlic to the bowl for steaming. Just add enough water to bring to the 500 ml mark. The results is a great sauce.

Save a spoonfull of marinade to dress the steak on the plate.

    Thanks for the comment Judy. The BBQ steak on forumthermomix is mine too. As according to the T&C for this site the recipes must not have been posted on any web previously so I did a variation. I probably change it slightly every time I make it depending on what I have on hand. My surprise is that you and Quirky saw and commented on this while it was in my draft folder. You can imagine my surprise to publish this today and see 2 comments immediatley. I left it in draft mainly while I got some pictures and did a double check on the timing. Also strange that the site uses the create in draft as the date so when I published it today it took me awhile to find it.

    Moreta, this recipe (minus the prawns) is posted on forumthermomix.com and that is where I made it from.  When I saw the recipe on this forum, I thought I would comment that steamed steak is very tasty as I am sure most people would not think so.

    I am puzzled. This recipe has been in my drafts since 16/12/10 waiting for pictures and some final tweeking of the times etc. I only got those up today as I served this for dinner last night so I had some real pictures. Yet you have commented on the 18th.

    I was puzzled it did not show as a new recipe until I noticed the date on your comment and went looking. it is on page 8. I would think the recipe date should be when published not as a draft.

    OH well. it is worth a try. This is a meal we have often in some variatin. Even poor quality steaks come out tender.

    I've done this one and was surprised that you could actually get a steamed steak to taste so good. Worth giving it a go to those who are meat steaming sceptics.
