Ingredients

Channa nu shak

  • 30 g sunflower oil
  • 1 level tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 level tsp black mustard seeds
  • 1 pinches Asafoetida
  • 1 Spanish onion, 1 large or 2 medium
  • 400 g chopped tomatoes, 1 tin
  • 1 small piece piece fresh ginger, 2cm peeled & sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 level tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 heaped tablespoons tomato puree
  • 0.5 level tbsp chilli powder
  • 1 level tbsp salt
  • 1 level tsp garam masala
  • 1200 g Canned Chickpeas, 3 tins
  • 0.15 litres water, half a tin rinsing out the chopped tomato can
  • bunch fresh coriander, leaves and stalks, chopped

Recipe's preparation

  1. 1. Add the oil & heat. 5 mins, steaming temp with the MC off
  2. 2. Add the asafoetida, cumin seeds, black mustard seeds. Heat 3 mins, 100 with the MC off, No counter-clockwise operation"No counter-clockwise operation" reverse
  3. 3. Add onion & ginger. Chop 3 seconds, speed 5. MC on. Scrape down the bowl.
  4. 4. Cook the onions 10mins, 100 degrees reverse No counter-clockwise operation"No counter-clockwise operation" Gentle stir setting"Gentle stir setting" MC off
  5. 5. Add chopped tomatoes, tomato puree & all remaining spices. Cook 10mins, 100 degrees reverse No counter-clockwise operation"No counter-clockwise operation" Gentle stir setting"Gentle stir setting" MC on!
  6. 6. Add chickpeas and water. Cook 10mins, 100 degrees reverse No counter-clockwise operation"No counter-clockwise operation" MC on!
  7. 7. add baby spinach & stir through until wilted
  8. Serve sprinkled with the chopped corriander

    If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
    For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid.
