Ingredients

  • 180 grams dried red lentils
  • 20 grams olive oil
  • 1 onion, peeled and quartered
  • 1 teaspoon ground cummin
  • 1 400g tin chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 2cm piece of fresh ginger, peeled
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small bunch fresh Italian parsley
  • 1 small bunch fresh coriander
  • 180 grams breadcrumbs (made in TM)
  • flour, for dusting
  • 1000 grams water, for cooking lentils

Recipe's preparation

  1. Measure lentils into the TM basket, then rinse and remove grit. Put basket of lentils into TM bowl, add water, and cook for 15 minutes at 90 on speed 1 with MC off. Drain well and set aside.

     

    2. Place coriander and parsley in TM bowl and chop for 3 seconds on speed 7. Set aside and rinse TM bowl.

     

    3. Add ginger to TM bowl and chop for 3 seconds on speed 7. Scrape down sides and add onion. Chop for 3 seconds on speed 7. Add cummin and oil and saute for 3 minutes at Varoma temperature with MC off.

     

    4. Drain and rinse chickpeas, then add to the TM bowl with onion mixture, half the lentils and the egg. Mix for 10 seconds on speed 6.

     

    5. Add remaining lentils, breadcrumbs and herbs and mix for 30 seconds on speed 4. Use the spatula to help mix the breadcrumbs in.

     

    6. Shape mixture into patties (should make approx 10 big patties). Toss in some flour to lightly coat the patties then refrigerate until needed. Grill on the Barbeque or in a frypan  in hot olive oil.

    I wasn't a real fan. They were quite crumbly when cooking so we ended up with nuggets really. Then the taste was quite dry and bland. I think some pumpkin or sweet potato would gove the needed flavour

    Hi - I'm new to thermo cooking - I noticed the lentils were not cooked after the initial 15 minute cooking time - just wondering if the lentils are meant to be fully cooked after the 1st 15 minutes??? 

     

    Maybe I have done something wrong???

    Delicious. I added fresh basil and garlic and used only 120g breadcrumbs.

    Held together well when cooked but I found these burgers to be very bland and dense.

    Delicious! I added in some corn kernals and omited parsley, and this worked well. I froze right after shaping into patties, and then cooked in a frypan with a little oil straight from frozen, and they cooked perfectly. Thank you!

    Nice to have these for a change but I would also substitute 150gm chickpeas for 150gm of either pumpkin or sweet potato and extra cumin next time as I thought they were rather bland. I served them with my home made mango/ chilli chutney for extra flavour. tmrc_emoticons.)

    I have been looking for a delicious chick pea & lentil patty for ages. This was it! Absolutely made my day. LOVED it!! I substituted 150g of chickpeas for 150g cooked pumpkin & served these with broccoli salad and chilli mayo. Yuum. Will be a family fave from now on!

    Just made (looking forward to eating for dinner!) I added about 100g of steamed sweet potato pieces, and in place of the cumin I put in 1 tablespoon of home made thai green curry paste! Smells beautiful and the mix moulded into burgers so easily, thank you tmrc_emoticons.) tmrc_emoticons.)
