I'm cooking this today

Recipe's preparation

    Okonomiyaki Pancakes
  1. Place cheese in TM bowland grate for 5 seconds/speed 9

  2. Add cabbage, carrotand celery, chop for 5 seconds/speed 5

  3. Add spring onions, flour, egg brown sugar, salt and milk, combine reverse/speed 4. After about 10 seconds, slowly add about 100g of water until a stiff batter forms.

  4. Heat vegetable oil in frying pan over medium heat, I have also used a flat sandwich press without any oil while at work to cook these. ladle batter in to make pancakes around 1-1.5cm thick depending on preference. Cook 3 minutes each side until golden

  5. Okonomiyaki Sauce
  6. Place garlic and ginger into TM bowl andchop for 4 seconds/speed7, scrape down the sides.

  7. Add all the other ingredients, plus 1/2 MC water and cook for 10 minutes/100 degrees/speed 1/MC off

Tip

This recipe is SO delicious and tasty even with such simple ingredients. Great way of hiding veggies from kids (they'll never know because they taste so good!) I often make a batch of batter and keep in the fridge for a quick easy meal. Also take to work and cook on the flat sandwich press. Others have also made these into small finger food size to serve as canapes

    TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.
Please note that the TM5 mixing bowl has a larger capacity than the TM31 (capacity of 2.2 liters instead of 2.0 liters for TM 31). Recipes for the Thermomix TM5 may not be cooked with a Thermomix TM31 for safety reasons without adjusting the quantities. Risk of scalding by spraying of hot liquids: Do not exceed the maximum filling quantity and observe the filling level markings of the mixing bowl!

Hi, what sort of cabbage is used? Half a regular cabbage seems to be a lot! Has anyone tried in a TM31?

I like the pancake recipe, but I did find it quite dough-ey, so I flattened them out more when putting the batter into the pan. I also added some more cabbage and chopped it on speed 4, to give it a bit more crunch.

The sauce recipe is an absolute cracker! Love it so much. Hubby says it would be great on some smoky ribs or steak too.

    Thanks for the great recipes!

    Hi Emily,
    What mustard do you use?

Really good Okonomiyaki recipe. I had not put cheese in Okonomiyaki before but it worked. The child who declared they don't like Okonomiyaki loved it! Didn't make the sauce yet though. I think I will next time

They are fantastic for a super quick, nutritious lunch for the kids. I have made these weekly since I bought my Thermomix. I only make a half batch, using 1 egg and omitting the water and I don't always make the sauce (as the kids often cannot wait that long). I cook on my flat sandwich press as suggested for easy clean up!
