Recipe's preparation

    How to:
  1. Thinly slice the peeled onion/s into rings.

Add to a bowl and cover with boiling water for 10 minutes. Drain using the steaming basket. Discard the water.

Add the vinegar, salt and sugar to the Closed lid"Closed lid" and bring to a boil 1-2 mins/sp1/Varoma or until sugar has dissolved.

    * Place the onions in a suitable sized glass jar and pour over the liquid.* (see notes)

    Place in the fridge.

They are ready to eat when cooled but taste even better when left to steep for a few days.

Tip

*Don't worry if the liquid doesn't cover the onions. Just shake the jar occassionally as it's cooling. If you're keeping them for a week or so you'll notice the onions sink into the pickling liquid.*

Delicious on cheese, cold meats or on a cracker.

    TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.
Please note that the TM5 mixing bowl has a larger capacity than the TM31 (capacity of 2.2 liters instead of 2.0 liters for TM 31). Recipes for the Thermomix TM5 may not be cooked with a Thermomix TM31 for safety reasons without adjusting the quantities. Risk of scalding by spraying of hot liquids: Do not exceed the maximum filling quantity and observe the filling level markings of the mixing bowl!

    Hi
excuse my strange question. Do you use whole cloves as well as black peppercorns. If so how much of each.

    thanks.

Even after a couple of days, we didn't think these had much flavour although we could taste the vinegar.

Can this be done with white or brown onion, also can it be done with whole pickling onions?

    Bel-1981:
i have kept it for a week. The flavour develops but the colour changes to more of a Pickled Onion colour.

Made the Speedy pickled onions yesterday.
Very easy recipe and very nice to boot.
I used one large red onion and it nearly filled a large jar.
Thanks for another nice recipe Monica😀
