Recipe's preparation

These Easter Story Cookies are more about the story of Easter than the biscuits themselves. They are intended to be done with children to create a memory about Easter and its true meaning. Make the night before Easter Sunday.
  1. Preheat oven to 150 C
  2. Place sugar into mixing bowl and mill 10sec/speed 9. Set aside.

(Ideally do this prior to starting to make the Easter Story Cookies with the children)
  3. Place the pecan nuts in the mixing bowl. Ask one of the children to chop the nuts on 5sec/speed 6

Explain that after Jesus' arrest, the Roman soldiers beat him.
    Read John 19:1-3
  4. Tip the nuts into a bowl and wash and dry mixing bowl.
  5. Insert Butterfly into clean and dry mixing bowl. Place into the bowl the egg whites.

Explain that eggs represent life. Jesus gave his life to give us life.

    Read John 10:10-11
  6. Have each child smell the vinegar. Add 5 grams vinegar into mixing bowl.

Explain that when Jesus was thirsty he was given vinegar to drink.

    Read John 19:28-30
  7. Beat for 3-4 minutes/50C/speed 3.5 with MC removed until strong peaks form.
  8. With blades rotating on speed 2, add sugar 1 tsp at a time over a period of 2-3 minutes.
  9. Fold in the broken nuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a baking tray. Explain that each mound looks like the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid.

    Read Matthew 27:57-60
  10. Put the tray in the oven and close the door. Turn the oven OFF
  11. Let each child put a piece of tape on the oven door. Explain that the tomb was sealed.

    Read Matthew 27:65-66
  12. GO TO BED. Explain that while the children are sad to leave the cookies. Jesus' followers were devastated when the tomb was sealed.
  13. On Easter morning open the oven. Eat a cookie (they are hollow inside). Observe that the cookies are empty inside just like the tomb was empty on that first Easter morning!

    Read Matthew 28:1-9

Tip

This recipe was published by Sophie Gray (Destitute Gourmet) in her book 'More stunning food from small change'. Sophie said it was passed to her via the internet. I have found it there in a number of places called either Easter Story Cookies or Resurrection Cookies. I have converted for the Thermomix.

    TM 6
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.
Please note that the TM5 mixing bowl has a larger capacity than the TM31 (capacity of 2.2 liters instead of 2.0 liters for TM 31). Recipes for the Thermomix TM5 may not be cooked with a Thermomix TM31 for safety reasons without adjusting the quantities. Risk of scalding by spraying of hot liquids: Do not exceed the maximum filling quantity and observe the filling level markings of the mixing bowl!
