Recipe's preparation

    Pie Shell
  1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease 2 x 22-cm pie dishes.

  2. Crust
  3. Place butter and sugar into the TM bowl Closed lid"Closed lid" . Blend Blend"Blend" 10 sec/speed 5.

  4. Add remaining crust ingredients. Mix 10 sec/speed 5. Scrape down the sides and repeat.

  5. Press into 2 greased pie dishes, prick lightly with a fork, and bake for 12 minutes until lightly browned around the edges.
While pastry is cooking, prepare the filling.

  6. Filling
  7. Except for butter and vanilla, place all ingredients into TM bowl Closed lid"Closed lid" Mix 10 sec/speed 5.

  8. Cook the filling for 15 min/90°C/speed 4.

  9. Add butter and vanilla. Very carefully, blend Blend"Blend" 5 sec/speed 4.

  10. Pour into prepared crusts and cool.

  11. Immediately sprinkle liberally with cinnamon. As well as giving a lovely cinnamon taste, the cinnamon prevents a skin
    forming on the custard.

  12. Refrigerate overnight.

Tip

• If you would like to have less pastry with lots of creamy custard filling, use the full quantities for the filling and fill one
crust. Freeze the other crust.
• If using vanilla paste or pods instead of the essence, add this in step 1.

A favorite South African dessert, the Milk Tart was introduced by Dutch settlers in the Cape.

For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.
Please note that the TM5 mixing bowl has a larger capacity than the TM31 (capacity of 2.2 liters instead of 2.0 liters for TM 31). Recipes for the Thermomix TM5 may not be cooked with a Thermomix TM31 for safety reasons without adjusting the quantities. Risk of scalding by spraying of hot liquids: Do not exceed the maximum filling quantity and observe the filling level markings of the mixing bowl!
