I'm cooking this today

Recipe's preparation

  1. 1. Add 50g brown or raw sugar and 15g water to bowl. Cook for 15 mins/120 degrees/speed 1 (MC on)

    2. Add 150g boiling water, 250g sugar and slice of lemon (be careful as it can splash a little and it's hot!!!) Cook for 40 mins/100 degrees/reverse/speed 1 (MC off)

    3. Put simmering basket into bowl and strain syrup into sterilised jar. Leave to cool with lid off for around an hour and it will thicken.

Tip

This recipe will give you the consistancy of the squeeze bottle golden syrup, you can cook it longer with a little more heat if you want it thicker.

Can be kept in the pantry for a few months if you used a steralised jar.

If you have a TM31, use varoma temperature for both steps 1 and 2

    TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.
Please note that the TM5 mixing bowl has a larger capacity than the TM31 (capacity of 2.2 liters instead of 2.0 liters for TM 31). Recipes for the Thermomix TM5 may not be cooked with a Thermomix TM31 for safety reasons without adjusting the quantities. Risk of scalding by spraying of hot liquids: Do not exceed the maximum filling quantity and observe the filling level markings of the mixing bowl!

😥 Sadly my golden syrup didn't work out. I didn't have a lemon, however I thought the 'easy lemon' liquid in the bottle would be ok. I used 2 teaspoons 10ml.
Is that the reason it didn't work.???

Do you leave the rind on the lemon and how thick is the slice, thanks

We wanted to make gingerbread today and had run out of golden syrup. Thanks so much for your recipe! Wonderful recipe. Followed exactly as per instructions and it turned out perfectly! (I have a TM31 and used varoma for step 1 and 2). So excited that I'll never have to buy it again now that I can make my own! Smile

Thank you ... you have saved me and my friends here in PNG - we haven't been able to buy Golden Syrup for awhile! Now all my Aussie friends are at my house collecting their jars of Golden Syrup.
