Sugar Free Tomato Sauce
Tip
This is just a modification of the amazing tomato ketchup recipe in the Everyday Cooking cookbook to replace the sugar with a few dates. It still has the same great taste without the refined sugar.

About to try this recipe for the first time. I just need to point out that this recipe is definitely NOT sugar free. Tomatoes, plums and dates are all high sugar fruits. Maybe rename to 'Refined Sugar Free'?
I'd also like to know how long it will last??
Thanks
Thanks foodie mum - taste is delicious was worried about consistency but has cooled to a nice consistency. Am enjoying exploring my options with our diet and my diabetes is "nearly" manageable.
Hi it sounds great, how long will it keep for do ou reckon??
I have made this sauce twice now & absolutely love it. There is no need for sugar as the fruits balance it out nicely but I have always preferred savoury over sweet. If you are wishing to cut back on sugar, this sauce is definitely the way to go. However I do find it difficult to find & remove bayleaf & cloves at end of cooking time so next time will make bouquet garni type bundle with string or muslin bag for easier removal.
