Ingredients

  • 1 Brown onion, quartered
  • 1 red chilli
  • 30 grams olive oil
  • 5 teaspoons curry powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne powder
  • 800 grams water
  • 2 tablespoons EDC vegetable stock concentrate
  • 300 grams dried red lentils, soak approx 15 mins, rinse and drain
  • 800 grams tinned chickpeas, drained
  • 300 grams pumpkin, peeled and chopped approx 1cm cubes
  • 60 grams baby spinach

Recipe's preparation

    Method
  1. Place onion, chilli and olive oil in TM bowl. Chop 3 seconds, speed 6.

  2. Add curry powder and cayenne pepper and sauté 4 minutes, Varoma, speed 1.

  3. Add water, stock, lentils, chickpeas,pumpkin and lentils and cook 16 minutes, 100C, counter-clockwise operation, speed 1 or until lentils are tender.

  4. Place baby spinach in Thermoserver and pour curry over to wilt. Stir spinach through curry mix.

  5. Serve with crusty bread and a spoonful of yoghurt on top.

Tip

Add vegetables other than pumpkin for a different taste.

You can leave out curry for diners who aren't into curry. It's still very tasty.

    Easy low cost meal thank you - I added a teaspoon of garam masala and cauliflower florets. We have this with the Thai roti clone recipe and rice.

    Just love this Dahl, I add cauliflower and leave out the chickpeas. It's delicious and a regular dinner in our house, my hubby's favourite. Thanks for sharing 😀

    Really lovely, ill make sure I have all ingredients next time but I had to improvise and it was pretty good. I didnt have an onion so added a garlic and an extra small red chilli, instead of red lentils I added a mix of lentils and split peas and instead of 300g pumpkin I added 150g sweet potato and 150g potato, reduced water to 700g but didnt need to, I added a handful of fresh beans and two large teaspoons of coconut milk. Doubled the time to cook so potato and sweet potato was cooked.

    oh so yummy, pumpkin needed 25 mins to cook but that was an easy fix. So delicious now if i could just stop nibbling it before dinner time

    Made this tonight and omg yum. made it in the TM5 used 700ml water and had to cook it for 30min second half of cooking I took the mc off and used steaming basket to stop splatter and this helped thicken the curry. Made fresh focaccia to go with it.
